In a press conference an-
nouncing that she has sent a
letter to city trade associa-
tions warning that such dis-
crimination would violate
the City' Human Rights
Law, Ms. Norton said the
City Commission on Human
Rights Believed that the best
way to combat discrimina-
tion was to prevent it before
it occurs.
The Commissioner made
her statements in announc-
ing. that the Commission
has found probable cause in
a complaint charging a New
York City oil company with
discriminating in the firing
of a Jewish receptionist-typ-
ist in February, 1974, whose
job required the greeting of
Arab visitors.

Appeal for Action

The Secretary of Commerce persists in acting as
liaison for the Arabs because he obviously thinks it is
more important to recycle Arab petrodollars than to
exact compliance with the law against participation
in the Arab boycott of Israel. Instead of enforcing the
law and protecting American companies from illegal
Arab pressures, Mr. Morton is aiding and abetting the
Arabs in their boycott against Americans who do
business in Israel.

Our summons and complaint have not yet
stopped Mr. Morton; it will take time for the case
to mature to trial, at which time we hope the fed-
eral court will order an end to the continued viola-
tion. But there is a shorter cut; word from Sena-
tors and Congressmen to the Commerce Secretary
to stop it now.

cie Schwerner of Queens
charged that the American
Independent Oil Co., which
'does a great deal of business
with Arab companies, fired
her after they learned she
was Jewish.
Ms. Norton said this is the
first such case that has gone
to a public bearing.
Any firm found guilty of
discrimination is liable to
pay both compensatory
damages as well as damages
for pain and suffering, Ms.
Norton stressed.
She said most cases were
settled before a hearing is
held because most firms do
not want the publicity of a
hearing.
She noted that discrimi-
nation on the basis of the
Arab boycott is "relatively

new" in New York City and
the Commission hopes to
stem it before it becomes an
"avalanche," since the city is
not only a world trade cen-
ter but has the largest Jew-
ish population in the coun-
try.

Oldsmobile 1976.

An Olds for everybody.
And good mileage in every size.

Take a look at the beautiful new 1976
Oldsmobiles in your dealer showroom.
They're impressive.
Then take a look at the 1976 EPA Mileage
Guide test figures for Oldsmobile. They're
impressive, too.
They show that good gas mileage runs in
our family. Remember these mileage figures
are estimates. Naturally the actual mileage °
you get-will vary depending on the type of
driving you do, your driving habits, your
car's condition, and available equipment.

From sporty Starfire supercoupes to full-
size, front-wheel drive Toronados, there's
good gas mileage in every size Olds.
That's quite a feat considering the array
of sizes and models that Olds is offering this
year. With this kind of selection, there's
bound to be an Olds to fit your lifestyle and
pocketbook. And every Olds, whether small,
mid-size or full-size is built to be right for
the times.
This year Oldsmobile is offering an avail-
able five-speed overdrive transmission on
Starfire, Omega and Cutlass models. (You
may be used to thinking of five-speed as
strictly a performance feature, but the fifth
gear gives you overdrive efficiency.)
