Dr. Schirmer had been
deputy head of the Third
Reich's foreign ministry's
department for interna-
tional broadcasts from 1939
to 1943. Dr. Achenbach was
head of the political section
of the German Embassy in
Paris from 1940 to 1943.
The news conference
was held to introduce Mrs.
Klarsfeld's book,
"Wherever They May
Be," published by Van-
guard Press, an account of
her experiences in Ger-
many and Bolivia where
she tracked down former
members of the Nazi hier-
archy, and in Poland,
Czechoslovakia, Syria,
Lebanon and Egypt where
she denounced current
manifistations of anti-
Semitism.
(A reception will be tend-
ered Mrs. Klarsfeld Sunday,
and she will promote her
book on Monday in Detroit.)
One of her long-term
aims, recently accom-

by the Bundestag of a treaty
between Germany and
France that would permit
trials in German courts of
former Nazi officials re-
sponsible for the murders of
thousands of Jews in
France, who have been con-
demned in absentia by
French courts.
Ratification of the treaty,
Mrs. Klarsfeld maintained,
had been held up for several
years through the efforts of
highly placed ex-Nazis and
Nazi sympathizers who
wished to forestall such
trials.
Although she holds dual
citizenship in France and
Germany, Mrs. Klarsfeld
described herself today as a
"daughter of the German
people, who shares their
heritage — the humanist

• To refuse to permit the

worst, if not the worst, in
history;
• To fight
