JULES ABRAMS joined
radio station WIID two
years ago, and his "Ro-
zhinkes Mit Mandlen" Jew-
ish program was allotted
one hour. There are now five
hours of Jewish program-
ming. Abrams appears on
the,program 9 a.m. Mon-
days and Thursdays. Lou
Levine fills in on Tuesdays
with a Yiddish program. Uri
Segal holds the 9:30 a.m.
Wednesday spot with a He-
brew feature and Al Naftal
and Sonia Popowski hold
the Friday spot with their
"Yiddishe Shtunde."
A
Brooklyn
native,
Abrams performed in his
late teens in USO shows. He
later studied theater tech-
nique at the Ornato Studios
of Modern Theater. Since
coming to Detroit in 1960,
he has appeared with Cen-
ter Theater of which he is a
past president, was a direc-
tor of the Birmingham Tem-
ple drama group, has ap-
peared in numerous TV
shows sponsored by the
Jewish Community Council
and makes personal appear-
ances with his wife, Mary,
reading works by Yiddish
authors.
"Rozhinkes Mit Mandlen"
features Israeli and Yiddish
music, a community calen-
dar, world news, interviews
and recipes.
BIRTHDAY WISHES:
Charlotte Ann Rosen (Al-
bert) celebrated her ? birth-
day this week. We're not
telling which one, but hope
Uncle Al had a nice surprise
up his sleeve.
OOPS: Ceil Kliger Ruda
(Louis) had a sister-sitter,
aunt-sitter and great-aunt
sitter last week. A fall and
broken bone kept her off her
feet for a few days while her
new cast dried. Not being
able to move around, rela-
tives came to help with
household and other chores.
MARTY MOLITZ, en-
tertainer from the East
Coast who goes by the pro-
fessional name of Barry
Martin, has made a name
for himself locally as a TV
star of sorts, while only in
Detroit one year. He ap-
pears as the gum-chewing
catcher in the Channel 4
sports advertisement.
Molitz has had experience
in television on the East
Coast and in night clubs. He
plays piano — favorites
from all periods — sings
and does comedy.
ANNIVERSARY TIME:
Seymour Schwartz and
his wife, Hattie, the "in-
vitation consultant" relived
the day said "I do"
29 years ago at a dinner
party this week in the home
of son Bennett and his wife,
Sharon. Seymour and Hat-
tie met at the old Jewish
Community Center on
Woodward. While on a fur-
lough back to his hometown,
Chicago, Seymour ran into

the former Hattie Avrushin
whom he hadn't seen in a
long time. They started dat-
ing steadily and finally
married in Detroit.
Guests at the dinner
party included Hattie's sis-
ters and (brothers-in-law),
Helen Weiss, Ann Feinman
(Ed), Esther Gorback (Jack)
and Hattie's mother, Ida
Avrushin. Mindy and Steven
Schwartz also were on hand
to honor their parents' 29
years of happiness together.
GREAT EXPECTA-
TIONS: In a country where
most kids want to grow up
to be president, Jeremy
Press is no different—ex-
cept he wants to grow up to
be president of General
Motors Corp. Ten-year-old
Jeremy, a student at Lath-
rup Elementary School, is
knowlegeable about car de-
signs, and can tell one make
from another and year-to-
year style changes. Since
age 3, sitting in the back
seat of the car, he's been
pointing out car makes and
models. Jeremy is the
youngest of Barbara and
Sam Press's five children.
GET WELL WISHES:
Danny Raskin, Jewish News
entertainment columnist
who regularly appears in
this spot, is in Ford Hospital
for a treatment. Hope to see
him back in action soon.
