Udell, NYANA president. The agency was created in 1949 to deal with the influx of thousands of European Jews who had survived World War II and the Holo- caust. She listed the major groups of Jews settled by NYANA in the Greater New York area, leading off with a total of 47,600 Jewish DPs settled during the 1949-1953 period'. During the 1956-1958 period, the agency resettled 4,000 Jewish refu- gees from Hungary. During the 1960s, 2,800 Jewish refugees from Ro- mania came for resettle- ment.
