NEW YORK (JTA) — The Lubavitch movement sent one of its Mitzva Mobiles on a nine-week, 10,000-mile tour of nine European coun- tries this summer, accord- ing to a report by a Lubav- itch official. Rabbi Samuel Butman, director of the Lubavitch Youth Organiza- tion, said the purpose of the campaign in Europe was the same as in the United States — to urge Jews to bolster observance of Jewish ritual practices, starting with To- rah study, donning of phy- lacteries, charity, acquisi- tion of basic books on Jewish lore, candle-lighting on the Sabbath and holiday eves, the Jewish dietary laws and family purity. The van was manned by two Lubavitch youth, Dovid Schurder and Yosef Piekar-. ski. They took their van to Britain, Belgium, Holland, West Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Switzer- land and Italy.
