and awards for their roles
in communal efforts dur-
ing the year to Campaign
chairmen Richard Sloan
and Arthur Howard, and
officers Phillip Stollman,
Irving Seligman and Dr.

Expressing their grati-
tude for cooperation given
them in the current year's
campaigning, Howard and
Sloan joined in calling for
renewed and increased
tasks in the new drive soon
to begin under the Fill-Har-
ris chairmanship.
The evening's program
followed a day of golfing,
late afternoon socializing
and reminiscing by the
more than 300 in attend-
ance, preparatory to the
forging of new campaign
machinery for the ap-
proaching 1976 campaign.

evaluative role during the
program in the series of
awards he made to the day's
top golfers.

Sixty students were grad-
uated last month at the 36th
commencement of the Shap-
ero School of Nursing at
Sinai Hospital of Detroit in
the hospital's Zuckerman
Auditorium.
Diplomas and pins were
presented to each of the
graduates.
This new class brings the
total of Shapero School
graduates to 1,553 since its
opening in 1956.
The school offers P
12-month program in prat
tical nurse training, de-
signed to prepare competent
men and women for bedside
nursing care.

major honors for campaign
achievements to the Profes-
sional Division which raised
the greatest percentage of
their 1974 total in 1975 un-
der the chairmanship of
Bruce E. Thal.

Regent Deane Baker said
what impressed him most
about his recent visit to Is-
rael was the Israelis' "sense
of purpose and unity" and
the progress they have made
since 1948 despite the con-
stant threat of war.
Baker just returned from
a trip to Eastern Europe
and the Mideast sponsored
by the International Asso-
ciation of Universities. An
industrialist, Baker said the
Israelis' progress was "ab-
solutely amazing," and cited
the modern buildings, ad-
vanced irrigation methods
and public utility services as
examples.
While in Israel, he was a
guest of Hebrew University
President Avraham Har-
man, and met with current
and former Israeli leaders.
In Cairo, Baker said one
gets the feeling that there
is great poverty in the
country. "Everything's
worn out," he said refer-
ring to heavy machinery.
He said he sensed that the
Egyptians were "gen-
uinely enthused" about

More than 600 supporters
of the Israel university are
expected at the annual din-
ner of Detroit Friends of
Bar-Ilan University, to be
held 6 p.m. Thursday at
Cong. Shaarey Zedek.
With Paul Zuckerman,
holder of an honorary docto-
rate at the university, as the
honoree, the dinner will be
addressed by Irving Bern-
stein, executive vice presi-
dent of the United Jewish
Appeal, who will make the
presentation to Zuckerman.
The event will be marked
by the appearance of one of
the most prominent opera
singers, Misha Raitzin, who

Morris Lieberman, local
attorney and long active in
the Detroit Jewish commu-
nity, was elected to the
chairmanship of the Michi-
gan-Ohio-Western Pennsyl-
vania Region of the Labor
Zionist Alliance at its re-
gional conference held in
Cleveland during the Labor
Day weekend.
The conference, attended
by delegates from Cleve-
land, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh
and Detroit, concentrated
on the future of Labor Zion-
ism in the United States
which is celebrating its 70th
anniversary in this country
