the end of Israel and not the
end of the UN; the two will
continue to live without one
another. The UN as it is to-

without us, for the UN as a
universal organization has
long since ceased to be.

machine bereft of consci-
ence and logic.
Ever since Israel joined
the UN as State No. 50, 81
additional states, for the
greater part Afro-Asiatic,
have been admitted to
membership. Consequently,
four new voting blocs have
crystallized: the Afro-Asian
bloc — 63 votes; the Latin
bloc (which once held deci-
sive power) — 23 votes; the
Western bloc (which is far
from being monolithic) —
15 votes, and the Soviet bloc
(which is monolithic) — 11
votes.

assembly that determines
that. Hence even the psy-
chological effect is not of
decisive importance.
We must not get excited
over or fear the threat of
expulsion, if only from the
point of view of political
tactics, for the move to-
wards our expulsion from
the assembly is but the
goat in the well-known
story, that Egypt wants to
let into the complex of ne-
gotiations for the interim
agreement, that are now
in progress.
Since March Egypt has
lost two great advantages. It
lost the ultimative factor in
the time-schedule that it
wanted to impose, and in
some measure it lost the all-
out American support of its
demands vis-a-vis Israel.
There is now greater under-
standing for Israeli condi-
tions and maps on the part
of the American Adminis-
tration than there was three
months ago.
Through her threats of
war and the steps taken for
our suspension from the
assembly, Egypt hopes to
regain the time pressure
factor and to introduce an-
other element of "return"
for the "little hit of peace"
that Israel so adamantly
demands. Egypt will agree
to remove the goat called
"expulsion from the UN," if
Israel cedes more areas and
much more quickly. Clearly
therefore, the effect of the
new threat is dependent on
how seriously Israel takes
this move. The more it gets

excited and the more fear it
shows, the easier it xvill he
to employ this weapon — if _
not this year then the year
after. This will become a
permanent weapon against
Israel if she should show
fear of it.

It follows, therefore,
that Israel's stand in the
present situation will de-
termine the dimension of
the problem. If we make it
clear, unequivocally, and
without any dilly-dallying
that our suspension froth
the UN will mean that
there is no longer a Geneva
Conference, that there is
no longer any UN Emer-
gency Force, no UN ob-
servers, no Resolution 242
and no Resolution 338, and
that no interim agreement
or any agreements will be
made any longer under the
patronage of the UN be-
cause this body has be-
come inimical to Israel, we
can pass over the dilemma
to the other side.
If, in face of this clear
stand, the Arab states will
find it expedient to suspend
us from the assembly, it is
not we who have to shed
tears about it. As it is, sus-
pension from this contami-
nated international body
appears at the present stage
to he no great moral or prac-
tical loss.

described as pro-Israel.
The assembly was not
even capable of passing a
resolution calling upon the
parties to the conflict to
conclude a peace.
The assembly is but a
platform for speeches and
its power does not approxi-
mate to that of a parlia-
ment which at least has
the power to promulgate
laws and to topple govern-
ments. But as a platform
for speeches it is of not
very great value to Israel.
For every speech delivered
by us, there are 20 anti-
Israel speeches, and for
every Israeli representa-
tive at the assembly there
are 30 Arabs.
It doesn't matter very
much whether we are in or
out. The effect is merely
psychological. The feeling
of many in this country
that those who decided on
the establishment of the
state can also decide on its
abolition has nothing to
rest upon, if only for the
simple reason that there is
not a single power that in
the present-day situation
of the UN will support the
creation of dangerous
precedents.
Today the Africans may
decide that Israel is non-
existent; tomorrow they
may say the same thing
about Britain. As it is, the
stand taken by the mem-
ber states towards Israel
is decided upon not in the
assembly but in Beirut.
And if the world be for us
or against us, it is not the

BOSTON (JTA) — The
Boston Jewish Community
Council reported it was
watching closely the re-
ported sale of extensive
properties in Boston to Ku-
waiti interests.
Albert Schlossberg, coun-
cil president, said the prop-
erties included in the re-
ported sale "have as tenants
a high percentage of resi-
dents and professional peo-
ple who are Jewish."
He said if indications of
discriminatory action devel-
oped, the Council would
"take all steps required to
protect the rights of the ten-
ants."
Schlossberg said the
Massachusetts Commis-
sion Against Discrimina-
tion had met with the sub-
committee on the Arab
boycott of the Jewish Corn-
munity Council's legal
committee and then issued
a statement indicating
that the commission too
intended "to monitor all
situations with potential
violations of the laws
against discrimination,
particularly with regard
to the Arab boycott."
Noting that the sale of
property is a legitimate
right of any American,
Schlossberg said the Jewish
Community Council would
"in this instance be vigilant
in its monitoring of the situ-
ation because of the seem-
ingly reliable report that

concern in this instance is
with the reported - pur-
chaser."
