count the possibility that
the Arab bloc and its allies
may desist from demanding
Israel's expulsion in view of
the upsurge of opposition in
Western countries against
such action.
The Senate on July 18
adopted without dissent a
resolution stating that the
U.S. will "not tolerate any
attempts to expel" Israel
from the UN. That resolu-
tion was introduced by
Republican leader Hugh
Scott of Pennsylvania with
56 sponsors. Senate
sources said that while the
Scott resolution does not
mention "suspension" the
language regarding "at-
tempts" to expel would
probably embrace "sus-
pension" and bring quick
Senate action against Is-
rael's enemies.
Meanwhile, Japanese
Prime Minister Takeo Miki,
declaring that Israel's sover-
eignty "should be re-
spected," said his govern-
ment will oppose a
resolution for "suspension"
from the UN General As-
sembly. "We \vill be opposed
to that kind of resolution,"
he said.
Miki was responding to a
question in an interview on
ABC-TV's "Issues and An-
swers" on "perhaps the
most pressing issue coming
up in the near future" in the
General Assembly.
Mild was asked if he has
"experienced any pressure
from the Arab govern-
ments" regarding the Arab
move to oust Israel. Miki
replied: "Of course, the na-
tional sovereignty of Israel
should he respected and un-
less the national sovereignty
of Israel is respected we will
not he able to realize perma-
nent peace in the Middle
East."
Miki then went on to say
that no pressure was exer-
cised by the Arab states
upon Japan.
In Rio De Janeiro, it was
reported that Israel's
Health Minister, Victor
Shemtov, described Israel's

Pope to Get Shofar From U.S.
Inter-Faith Group for Israel
NEW YORK, (JTA) —
Pope Paul VI will be pre-
sented with a shofar as a
gift from the Interfaith
Committee of Israel by a
group of students of Seton
Hall University and clergy-
men from various parts of
the country during their
audience with him at the
Vatican at the conclusion of
their three-week study tour
of Israel and Rome as part
of the Holy Year, according
to an announcement by for-
mer Congressman Herbert
Tenzer of New York, presi-
dent of the America-Israel
Friendship League, co-spon-
sor of the tour.
The presentation of the
shofar to the Pope will take
place Aug. 27 as Jews the
world over are preparing to
observe Rosh Hashana Sept.
6 and 7. The inscription on
the shofar to be presented to
the Pope reads: "A gift to
your Holiness Pope Paul VI,
commemorating the Jubilee
Year of 1975. May this sho-
far symbolize the peace and
reconciliation among all
people sought by you and
us."
The Israel Interfaith
Committee, with head-
quarters in Jerusalem, is
headed by Prof. R.J. Zwi
Werblovsky and comprises
in its leadership Arch-
bishop George Appleton,
Archbishop Joseph M.
Raya, Mayor Teddy Kol-
lek, Sheikh Tawfik Mah-
mud Asleya and other not-
ables active in all three
major religions.
The study tour, which in-
cludes a four-day pilgri-
mage to Rome, will include
seminars in the Hebrew
University of Jerusalem.

that expulsion of Israel
from the United Nations
would bring war in the Mid-

Shemtov came to Brasilia
from Gogota, the first stop

where he met with Colom-
