`No Answer' on Cairo's Phones

BY DAVID SCHWARTZ

room there as to call some-
one by phone.

Have you ever tried to
telephone anyone in Cairo?
The other day, prompted by
something William Safire,
the New York Times col-
umnist wrote, we tried it.
We put a dime in the
phone and tried to call
Sadat. But the dime came
back. We put another dime
in and got information. We
asked information to con- ,
nect us with Cairo. "Sorry,'
she reported, "there is no
answer."
"Wait a minute," said the
operator, "I will connect you
with the exchange there."
"Hello," I said again. "Is this
Cairo?" .

Maybe the United Na ,-
tions might take up the tele-
phone problem of Egypt in-
stead of concentrating on
measures to curb Israel.
The finest thing about the
UN is a sentence that is in-
scribed on the main build-
ing. It reads:
"Nation will not lift up
sword against nation nei-
ther will they learn the art
of war any more."

JERUSALEM — Agricul-
ture is undoubtedly one of
Israel's major growth sec-
tors. In the first five months
of 1975 agricultural exports
accounted for 23 percent of
Israel's total exports as
compared with 17 percent
during the corresponding
period of 1974.
Hand in hand with the ex-
pansion of agricultural out-
put, Israel's agricultural
equipment industry has also
been developing. The indus-
try's total production in
1974 reached $62 million
and is expected to amount to
$70 million in 1975. Exports
of agricultural equipment
totalled $8.5 million in 1974
and are anticipated to ex-
ceed $11 million in 1975.
The agricultural equip-
ment section is one of the
nine categories of metal-
linked production industries
that will be exhibiting at
Israel's third Metal Indus-
tries Week — Ismetal 75
October.
Exhibits of farm equip-
ment will include irrigation
