18 Friday, August 15, 1975 THE DETROIT JEWISH NEWS Arabs Relieved EEC Talks Ignored Terrorist Bomb Attack JERUSALEM — The chairman of the Arab League delegation to a two- day round of talks in Rome with the European Eco- nomic Community on a new cooperation agreement ex- pressed satisfaction over a decision not to pursue a European Parliament reso- lution which condemned fedayeen terrorism follow- ing the terror bombing of Zion Square in Jerusalem July 4. Fifteen persons, four of them Arabs, died of inju- ries suffered in the blast and more than 65 were wounded. The Arab chairman, Nijmeddin Dajani, added that the European parlia- ment decision "by itself and w in its context has caused dis- may among the Arab people and the peoples of the Third World because it signified a desire on the part of some circles to prejudice Euro- pean-Arab relations." Algerian Ambassador to Brussels Ait Chalal said, in conveying the Arab states' complaint to the European Common Mar- ket Commission, that they were "completely sur- prised at such categoric and exclusive condemna- tion of actions that we con- sider to be legitimate de- fense by Palestinian resistance of occupied Pa- lestinian territory." Meanwhile, in an appeal published by the Arabic- language Jerusalem news- paper Al Anba, the Israeli Arab leadership of the As- sociation of Arabs and Jews for Fostering ArabrIsraeli Relations said in conderrin- ing the fedayeen bombing: Arab West Bank Leaders to Discuss Hebron Prayer Plan JERUSALEM (JTA) — Arab leaders in the West Bank plan to hold an emer- gency meeting to discuss the NEW YORK — A high- new regulations at the light of the 50th anniversary Tomb of the Patriarchs in jubilee convention of Ameri- Hebron which give Jews Cltoice 'Dated can Mizrachi Women now equal prayer time with Mos- taking place in Israel was a lems. are available visit to the new AMW Wolf for your joyous Defense Minister Shifnon and Julia Eisenberg Com- Peres announced the new prehensive High School in regulations last week after North Tel Aviv which will members of the Jewish set- at the elegant open in September. tlement of Kiryat Arba on In addition to offering the outskirts of Hebron, vocational courses such as demonstrated against the CAT Lit m home economics, dietetics, seven-hour-a-day time limit Gourmet Restaurant hotel management, office for Jewish prayers at the work, sewing, couture fash- tomb. • • Weddings ions and textiles, the new Sheikh Mohammed Ali Al • Showers four-year comprehensive Jaabari, Hebron's mayor, • Etc. high school will also have called for the meeting fol- music and art departments. lowing a demonstration out- Private Rooms Subjects also include indus- side the tomb Friday night. accomodating from trial art, graphics, photog- Jaabari was attacked during 25 to 150 raphy, sculpture, ceramics prayers by young Moslems Entire facilities to and metal work. When the young Mos- lems failed to provoke the mayor or to convince oth- ers to start a sit-down strike at the tomb, they went outside and threw stones at a truck belonging to a Kiryat Arba resident and hit the driver, Ephraim Rosenberg, with a stick. Israeli army units did not intervene but tried to persuade the Arab dem- onstrators to leave. They did after an hour. Gen. Yona Efrat, com- mander of the central re- gion, visited the area later and promised Kiryat Arba residents to investigate the incident. The new regulations an- nounced by Peres set aside the large "Isaac and Re- becca" hall for Moslem prayers and the smaller "Abraham and Sarah" and "Jacob and Leah" halls for Jewish prayers. On Fridays, the Moslem Sabbath, the tomb is restricted to Mos- lem prayers. Meanwhile, Defense Ministry sources said the new regulations were shown to Jaabari by Peres before they were an- nounced. The sources claimed that the Hebron mayor and other Arabs who met with Peres under- stood the aims of the new regulations and expressed their gratitude that Mos- lem feelings were taken into consideration. The new regulations fol- lowed an attempt by Kiryat Arba residents to force their way into the tomb during the time reserved for Mos- lem prayers. NYANA to Aid Viet Refugees NEW YORK (JTA) — The New York Association for New Americans has agreed to accept 200 Vietnam refu- gees during September for resettlement in the New York area. Under legislation passed by Congress earlier this year, NYANA will be reim- bursed for its aid to the Vietnam refugees at the rate of $450 per person, NYANA officials said. The agency will provide the refu- gees with whatever services are possible to help them in their initial settlement in New York. In recent years, the bulk of NYANA's caseload has consisted of Russian Jewish newcomers, 4,000 having been helped to settle in the New York area since 1973. lutely no contribution to- ward solvim:, the Palestinian problem; it merely serves to arouse world public opinion against the organizations. "The murderers' aim in committing this criminal act was to provoke riots be- tween the members of the two nations, the Arab and the Jewish, and to incite one against the other. However, they failed. For this abom- inable crime strengthened the solidarity of the nobility of the two nations and forti- fied their firm resolve to act, with renewed determina- tion, to achieve peace and to oppose the extremist ele- ments and the agents of conflict and strife."
