Sculptor Betty Jacob, 56

Betty Jacob, internation-
ally known Detroit sculptor,
died July 25 at age 56.
Born in Brooklyn, Mrs.
Jacob lived and worked in
Detroit for the past 20
years. Her studio was lo-

sated at 16913 Wyoming.
Her works in cast bronze,
wood and stone are dis-
played in museums
throughout the country and
in Europe. They range from
a tiny 12-inch figure to a

Ga.

Shortly before her
death, she had received a
commission to create a
bronze monument for the
UAW's Solidarity House
here.
Mrs. Jacob preferred to do

her own casting for her
works weighing less than
150 pounds. She always did
her own finishing and pol-
ishing.
She also was commis-
sioned to do the Trophy for
Thunderbird, Ford Motor
CO., and the pool sculpture
at the Isadore Familian
Building in Los Angeles.
Her works are exhibited at
the Detroit Institute. of
Arts, Kalamazoo Institute
of Arts, Herron Museum of
Indianapolis, Garelick's
Gallery in Birmingham, the
Distelheim Gallery and the
Guildhall in Chicago, the
Neikrug and Emile Walter
galleries in New York City,
the Maxwell Gallery in San
Francisco and the Cowie
Wilshire Gallery in Los
Angeles.
She leaves her husband,
Joel G.; a son, Paul; a
daughter, Mrs. Gerald
(Deborah) Cohen of Studio
City, Calif., a sister, Mrs.
Mortimer (Dorothy) Keat-
ing of San Antonio, Texas
and two grandchildren.
