His election was announced by ARMDI national board chairman Emanuel Celler, former chairman of the House Judiciary Commit- tee. Handleman assumes the leadership of the American Red Magen David, the sole agency in the United States authorized to solicit and col- lect funds for the Magen David Adom, Israel's na- tional Red Cross society. A contributor to the Jew- ish Welfare Federations of Detroit and Greater Miami, Hendleman was on the na- tional board of directors and the executive committee of the ARMDI for the past five years.
