Hebrew U. Med Students
Refuse to Take Final Exams
JERUSALEM — The en-
tire graduating class — 94
students — of the Hebrew
University-Hadassah Medi-
cal School is refusing to take
its final examinations. The
faculty has said that any
student not showing up for
examinations will be failed.
The sixth-year students
charge that the faculty had
not given them enough time
to prepare for the exams.
This year, eight major ex-
aminations have been sched-
uled within 24 days while in
previous years, they were
distributed over the fifth
and sixth years of study.
At a meeting with the
press, student spokesman
Simha Yogel said that "it is
impossible to prepare ade-
quately for eight major ex-
ams scheduled within only
24 days." The students' clin-
ical work, which often keeps
them busy for 10 or eleven
hours a day, leaves them no
time for study, he said.
Yogel conceded that the
present end-of-the-year
rush was a long-range re-
sult of dislocations caused
by the Yom Kipur War.
Although only about one-
third of the graduates plan
to serve their internship at
Hadassah, the October
starting date apparently
has much to do with the pre-
sent rush. The hospital
needs the young doctors.
The students want at least

till the end of December to
study for their exams.
At Tel Aviv University,
final exams are given at the
end of each course.
The students said that
they struggled with the
problem for over a year and
even submitted a detailed
projected exam schedule to
the faculty, but this was re-
jected. A month ago they in-
formed the faculty in writ-
ing of their intention to
refuse to take the ex-
ams.
Honigman Named
to Tenure Board
Detroit attorney Jason L.
Honigman has been re-
elected to the state Judicial
Tenure Commission by
Michigan attorneys.
Honigman, whose three-
year term expires Dec. 31,
1978, defeated six other can-
didates for the position. The
tenure commission conducts
hearings and recommends
action to the Supreme Court
before judges are censured,
suspended, removed or re-
tired by the court.
The AJCongress letter
said that "in view of these
known, admitted policies of
Saudi Arabia," the an-
nouncement of the loan
would "inevitably suggest to
many Americans that
A.T.&T. has agreed to com-
ply with Saudi policy re-
garding the employment of
Jews and with the Arab
boycott of Israel and of com-
panies that deal with Israel.
"We believe it would
therefore he most appro-
priate for A.T.&T. to utilize
the occasion of the loan
agreement to inform the
public that the $100 million

Jewish Emigration
From Romania
Tripled in June
I I WHY WORRY ! -
JERUSALEM (JTA) —
Pinhas Sapir, chairman of
the Jewish Agency and
World Zionist Organization
Executives, reported last
Monday that Jewish emi-
gration from Romania tri-
pled in June compared to
the previous month.
He said another increase
in emigration from Ro-
mania could he expected
this month, according to an
interview published in Maa-
riv.
Sapir said that according
to his information, all Jews
who want to leave Romania
in August and September
could do so. He said Roman-
ian officials negotiating a
new trade agreement with
the U.S. said the Bucharest
government would put no
obstacles in the way of Jews
who wished to emigrate.

program to train girls stu-
dying in seminaries as med-

The first group of 25 girls

Participating in the pro-
gram are the Rika Breuers

Project COPE has success-
fully negotiated a special
course with the Mandl

the girls' day long seminary

offer a separate class for the
girls and will not conduct
classes on the Jewish Sab-
hath and holidays.
Rabbi Yerachmiel Bar-
ash, assistant director•of
Project COPE's vocational
education division, who was
instrumental in negotiating
this unique arrangement,
noted that negotiations are
