(Copyright 1975, Samuel Goldwyn Studios hosted several hundred mo- tion picture personalities for the inauguration of the two adjoining new sound stages covering some 14,000 square feet and built from the ground up at the site of the burned-down buildings. Two more stages will go under construction later this year to make up for the total loss on space suffered during the fire of May 1974. The new facilities represent the most advanced produc- tion center; with recording studios, computerized, auto- mated - dialogue dubbing rooms, sound effect mixing and screening theater. Norman Jewison, produ- cer-director of "Fiddler on the Roof," now headquart- ering in London, was in town for a press conference before the official opening of "Rollerball," a picture he recently completed for United Artists in Europe. "Rollerball" appraises the world of tomorrow, when wars and militant nationalism are elimi- nated by a central govern- ment with everyone under the control of an ice-cold conglomerate divided into sections for energy, hous- ing, food, transport and communications. Kirk Douglas renders a humanly-warm, powerful performance in the new Paramount picture, "Once Is Not Enough," from the pen of the late Jacqueline 7:30 a.m. thru 11 p.m. Mon.-Fri. It is the electrifying char- acterization of Douglas that propels a rather ordinary soap-opera towards its tragic climax. Deborah Raf- fin is well cast as the 20-year-old daughter, but the other principals in the drama are not much to our liking. Julius J. Epstein, the surviving of the famed Ep- stein twins, wrote the screenplay. Douglas made another film for Paramount this year, "-Posse," produced and directed by the star himself, a story of corruption in a small community of the past, but not a Western in spite of the environment. Eddie Fisher made a sensational comeback on the night club stage of the Riviera Hotel in Las Ve- gas, where he proved that his voice has lost none of the luster during his all- too-long absence. Gerd Oswald, son of vet- eran European producer Richard Oswald, himself a Hollywood film director for 20 years, has been signed by Luggi Waldleitner to guide an English-language version of "To the Bitter End" by Austrian novelist Johannes Mario Simmel, with loca- tions in Vienna, and Malibu, Calif. We opened this past January in the midst of an economic downturn. Almost every local business has been adversely affected, the automotive giants and their supplying firms have cut budgets, trimmed entertainment allowances and pulled in their belts. In spite of the obvious difficulties that result from opening an operation as large as the Trio, in a recession year, we've overcome the initial birth pains. Our food and service have attained a level of consistant high quality. Your response, though less than we would have expected in "boom" times, has clearly showed your approval.
