Immigration is Discussed
Aliya Budget Cut
JERUSALEM (JTA) —
The Absorption Ministry's
annual budget will be cut by
8.7 percent from IL190 to
IL168 million ($36 million to
$27 million). The cut was
made as part of the overall
cuts in ministries budgets,
and due to the slowdown in
immigration.
Social absorption pro-
grams will not be affected
by the cuts, but employ-
ment and financial aid to
immigrants immediately
after their arrival will be.
The Ministry only re-
cently changed the system
of granting privileges to
immigrants from tax ex-
emptions and reductions to
allocating sums of money to
the immigrants for their
free use on absorption ex-
penses.
TEL AVIV (JTA) — Is-
raeli Air Force jets de-
stroyed a terrorist arms fac-
tory near Sidon in Lebanon
Sunday. It was the second
Israeli air strike within a
week at terrorist targets
along the coast of southern
Lebanon.
The last attack — a com-
bination .air, land and sea
operation — was carried out
Rosenberg Sons
Sue for Files
Of Parents' Trial
WASHINGTON — The
sons of Julius and Ethel
Rosenberg filed suit this
week in an attempt to make
public all the government's
files on the celebrated es-
pionage case.
- Robert and Michael Meer-
opol asked the United States
District Court to order that
all such records be handed
over by the Federal Bureau
of Investigation Resources
Development Administra-
tion, the Department of Jus-
tice and United States At-
torney's offices in New
Mexico and New York.
The suit also seeks an in-
junction barring any fur-
ther destruction of the ma-
terials following a recent
disclosure that the United
States Attorney in New
Mexico had destroyed rec-
ords on David Greenglass,
who was a key government
witness against the Rosen-
bergs.
The Rosenbergs were exe-
cuted 22 years ago after
they were convicted of pass-
ing the secret of the atomic
bomb to the Soviet Union.
To the end the couple in-
sisted they were innocent,
and doubt over the verdict
has been expressed over the
years.
Spiritual mediation has
always been the gateway to
a special kind of self-knowl-

Arab terrorists retaliated
against the Israeli raid by
launching a barrage of Kat-
yusha rockets at the Naha-
riya and Rosh Hanikra re-
gions. Two women were
reportedly injured.
At the same time an
unidentified shell was
fired at Kibutz Malakiyeh
in the upper Galilee. No
one was injured.
Last Sunday, a single
Katyusha rocket fired from
Jordanian territory at Ki-
butz Eiloth, three kilome-
ters north of Eilat, set off
brush fires in the dry field
but caused no casualties or
damage.
The incident was the first
of its kind in the southern-
most region of Israel. Israeli
sources said it seemed un-
likely that Jordan would
permit attacks in the Eilat
region which is adjacent to
its own highly vulnerable
Red Sea port of Aquaba.

JERUSALEM — A return to increased emigration
of Romanian Jews is discussed during the recent visit to
Israel of Romanian Chief Rabbi Moshe Rosen, shown
left, and Armenian Catholicos Vasken. The U.S. granted
Romania "most favored nation" trade status last week,
but a recent drop in Jewish emigration was cause for
controversy.
