Editor, The Jewish News:
You recently reminisced
(May 16, Page 2) about the
days, in the Thirties, when
the World Adventure Series
was first organized. Well, it
all reminded me forcibly of
how much the World Adven- -
. ture Series — and the Peo-
ples' Museum Association,
which was our parent and
partner — accomplished
long before television came
to Detroit.
We more than doubled

the Museum's annual at-
tendance.
We handled all the Mu-
seum's public relations. Our
biggest assignment was to
defend the Diego Rivera
frescoes, and keep mis-
guided zealots from white-
washing them. This job was
entirely handled by our Peo-
ples' Museum Association
volunteer staff. Dr. Valenti-
ner, then museum director,
and Edsel Ford and Albert
Kahn of the Arts Commis-
sion were especially compli-
mentary.
In the depth of the Great
Depression, we kept the Mu-
seum's educational depart-
ment and services from clos-
ing by expanding the World
Adventure Series lecture
program to earn money.

Israel Tank Fire
Danger Abated

TEL AVIV (JTA) — The
army's ordinance corps an-
nounced the development of
new fire extinguishing
equipment that could save
the lives of tank crews
whose chief danger is incin-
eration when their tanks are
set on fire.

Gerontologists Hold
Meeting in Israel

JERUSALEM (JTA) —
More than 1,500 delegates to
the 10th International Ger-
ontology Congress, cur-
rently in progress in Jerusa-
• ', were told by a half
dozen researchers that sex
for men can continue indefi-
nitely.
A paper- presented by
Clyde E. Martin of the Ger-
ontology Research Center in
Baltimore showed that the
peak of sexual activity
among men was between
the age bracket of 30 to 34.
Afterwards sexual activity
was slowly declining, but as
another presented by Dr.
Eric Pfeiffer of Duke Uni-
versity North Carolina
showed, 76 percent of the
men between the ages of 66
and 71 were sexually active.

Meanwhile, five more
yeshivot have joined the
Heseder arrangement under
which yeshiva students con-
tinue their studies while in
the army.
The five yeshivot are all
on the secondary school
level.

Vatican Inaction
in Holocaust Hit

JERUSALEM (JTA) —
One of the key Jewish
Agency officials involved in
rescue work during World
War II criticized the Vati-
can's inaction in a new book
about that period.
The book, "Rescue During
the Holocaust," written by
Haim Barlass, who directed
rescue work from Geneva
and Istanbul during the
Holocaust, charges that
Pope Pius XII had all the
facts about Nazi atrocities,
but did nothing to prevent
them.
