Paralyzed for life in all four limbs, and blind, the young man decided to go on with his studies, and has just received his master of arts degree in psychology from Bar-Ilan University. The Haifa police depart- ment has transported him to and from high school and college each day with a spe- cially modified police car to handle his wheelchair. Several Detroiters helped sponsor the young man in- cluding Goldie Adler, Louis Berry, Irwin Cohn, Max Fisher, Irwin Green, Joe Jackier, Ann Parzin, Ger- trude and Tubie Resnik and Lil and Dr. Myer Teitel- baum. Book Details Capture of Eichmann "The House on Garibaldi Street" (Viking Press) is the first full account of the cap- ture of Adolf Eichmann, the Nazi leader who supervised the "final solution to the Jewish problem," told by Isser Harel, who as head of Israel's secret service di- rected every step of the op- eration. For 15 years after Eich- mann was captured and brought to Israel to stand trial for his crimes, vital questions remained unan- swered: How had the Israe- lis found this mass mur- derer who had vanished so completely that many pre- sumed him dead? How had they abducted a man who had vowed to commit sui- cide if he was ever appre- hended? How had they ac- complished their mission? In "The House on Gari- baldi Street," Harel meticu- lously reconstructs Opera- tion Eichmann from the first tentative identification of Eichmann (made by a blind man) to the final flight from Buenos Aires to Israel. As frustrations, delays and unexpected mishaps upset the Israelis' care- fully laid plans, the "heroes" of Operation Eichmann are revealed in their most human aspects: their vulnerability to fear and despair; their loathing for their prisoner; their memories of their own ex- periences with Nazi hor- rors. Their ultimate exultation at the success of their mis- sion is an experience that every reader cannot help but share.
