Pelavin, presi- dent of the Flint Jewish Community Council, an- nounces that the Institute for Jewish Life has estab- lished a grant of $10,000 for the 1976 Teen Summer in Is- rael Combined Program to be conducted by Waterbury, Conn.; Birmingham, Ala.; and Flint. The American Association for Jewish Edu- cation and the Council of Jewish Federations and Welfare Funds Committee on Small Cities will sponsor the combined program. The program includes two hours of classes to be held on Sunday mornings during the 1975-76 school year. Combined one-week semi- nars will be held twice dur- ing the year for all partici- pants. In Israel, the participants will go through the absorp- tion process with a Russian family. To participate, appli- cants must complete the ninth grade by June 1976. Parents must be members of the Flint Jewish Com- munity Council. Partici- pants will be obligated to provide service of an edu- cational or creative value for the Jewish community during the year following their tour. FJCC Names Education Unit The Flint Jewish Commu- nity Council Board of Gov- ernors authorized the for- mation of a committee to explore the development of a community approach to ed- ucation. The committee was formed with representatives of Cong. Beth Israel, Temple Beth El and the Council. Gloria Siegel was elected chairman of the education committee. Robert Segar was named vice chairman. A sub-committee on school structure was ap- pointed with Milton Panzer, chairman, and Arnold Schaffer, vice chairman.
