Humorist and Playwright Arthur Kober, 74

NEW YORK — Arthur
Kober, humorist and play-
wright, died June 12 at age
74.
Born in Brody, in the
Austro-Hungarian Empire,

Mr. Kober was married in
1925 to author Lillian Hell-
man, and later divorced.
He was noted for his car-
toon character Bella who
spoke a dialect called Bronx.

She had one mission in life
— to find a husband, and
while searching to survive

Benny Greenspan, Holly-
wood agent, called "That
Man Is Here Again."
Mr. Kober contributed to
publications on both coasts
and worked on about 30
movies including, "The Little
Foxes" (by Miss Hellman),
"Wintertime" and "Ginger."
His own plays include
"Having Wonderful Time"
and "Wish You Were Here"
with Joshua Logan.

Dr. Herbert A. Bronson, a
retired optometrist, died
June 16 at age 66.
Born in New York City,
Dr. Bronson lived 60 years
in Detroit. He was a gradu-
ate of the University of
Michigan and a 1944 gradu-
ate of Northern Illinois Col-
lege of Optometry. He was a
Boy Scout Troop leader and
led Troop 179 at Hutchins
School. He was a member of
the Society of Michigan Op-
tometrists. He resided at
23540 Radclift, Oak Park.

Louis M. Levitsky, former
president of the . Rabbinical
Assembly of America and
director of the Jewish Theo-
logical Seminary School of
Jewish Studies, died July 15
at age 78.
Rabbi Emeritus of Cheb
Shalom Congregation of
South Orange, N.J., Rabbi
Levitsky was on the faculty
of Rutgers University and
lectured on religion at Ne-
wark College of Engineering
and Douglass College. He
also was a public member of
the New Jersey Labor Me-
diation Board.
