Career Opportunities in Israel

recent Jewish college gradu-
ates in 15 key cities across
the country selected as a
sample, are generally una-
ble to find jobs. Joining the
new grads in the "job-hunt-
ing - market", the report
states, are persons with
masters degrees in educa-
tion, a field traditional with
Jews.

NEW YORK — Recent
Jewish college graduates in
the humanities, education
and social services are being
offered career opportunities
in Israel as an alternative to
accepting positions outside
of their chosen profession in
this country.
Allan Pakes, Israel aliya
director of employment
services, said this week,
"young people who have de-
cided to make aliya some-
time in the future should
not allow their years of edu-
cation to be wasted in a po-
sition not of their choosing
just because the job market
in this country has dimin-
ished. Israel needs and ap-
preciates young people who
have much to offer their fel-
low man and its need4 are
now."
According to Henry B.
Stern, Jewish Occupational
Council executive director,

Career opportunities in
professions critically
needed in Israel are out-
lined in a new series of in-
formational pamphlets
being made available
through regional Israel
aliya centers.

in Member Decline

SOUTHBURY, Conn. —
The Union of American
Hebrew Congregations has
reported that the decade-
long decline and stagnation
in membership growth has
been halted and that many
of the movement's 715 Re-

United States and Canada
are showing a one to two
percent increase in new
members over the past two
years.

Rabbi Alexander M.
Schindler,-UAHC president,
told members of the body's
hoard of trustees that the
"upward swing for Jewish
religious identity and affi-
liation appears to be at
hand."

Irwin Groner of Cong.
Shaarey Zedek, vice presi-

Cong. Beth Shalom, trea-
surer.

The association, repre-
senting all Conservative

the metropolitan area and
nearby communities, has
implemented standards in
the areas of ritual and reli-
gious practices.
