Hadassah Blasts WHO Bias

FURNtTURE Reilpholstering —
refinishing & repairs. S51 - 2550,

NEW YORK, (JTA) —
The Hadassah Medical Or-
ganization's national board
announced its plans to re-
view its membership in the
United States Association
for World Health, the affi-
liate of the World Health
Organization, a United Na-
tions agency which last
week voted a condemnation
of Israel's treatment of resi-
dents of the administered
territories.
In a letter last week to Dr.
S. A. Malafatopolous, head
of WHO, Mrs. Rose E. Matz-
kin, Hadassah president,
said the WHO assembly res-
olution was "an action
which lowers the moral
value of the WHO and casts
doubt on the validity of its
work."
She said that after the
1967 war, hundreds of Ar-
abs came to Hadassah for
medical treatment "after
years of neglect by the Arab
government" of the West
Bank and East Jerusalem.

Israel-EEC Pact
Is Completed

BRUSSELS (JTA) —
Representatives of the nine
member countries of the
European Economic Com-
munity and a delegate from
Israel signed the final docu-
ments of the Israel-EEC
economic accord May 30.
The accord will allow 60
percent reductions on indus-
trial- goods exported by Is-
rael to EEC countries and
from 60 to 80 percent reduc-
tions on agricultural prod-
ucts covered by the agree-
ment, beginning July 1,
1975.
Duties on goods going
from Israel to the EEC will
be completely abolished by
July 1977. In the other di-
rection, duties will be pro-
gressively lowered to reach
total abolition in 1989.

Meanwhile, the newspa-
per Le Monde reported in
Paris that the Israel-EEC
accord, sigried in Brussels
on May 11, will not include
products originating in the
occupied territories.

The newspaper said the
president of the EEC Execu-
tive Council, Foreign Minis-
ter Garret Fitzgerald of Ire-
land, reporting on his recent
trip to the Middle East, told
the council that Arab coun-
tries would object to the Is-
rael-EEC accord if it in-
cluded sych products.

Explosion Injures
Israeli Policeman

JERUSLAEM, (JTA) —
An off-duty policeman was
slightly injured last Thurs-
day when a parcel exploded
as he was examining it.
The parcel had been-re-
moved from a bus on Shivtei
Israel St. near the Ministry
of Education and Culture on
the boundary between East
and West Jerusalem.
Police had been alerted
and were sending a bomb
squad when the off-duty
officer tried to move the ob
ject.
In another incident, an
explosive charge detonated
on the Bethlehem-Tzur
Baher Rd. on the southeast-
ern outskirts of Jerusalem
earlier last Thursday but
caused no injuries.

If a racial group is to
achieve great things for cen-
tury after century, it needs
a good inheritance and must
preserve that inheritance.
— Ellsworth Huntington

She said "the health
standards in those areas
are higher today than
ever; the mortality rate is
lower. This attempt, once
again to politicize a UN
agency only denigrates the

value of the agency to all
the peoples of the world
and renders it liable to
suspicion of its motives. As
a member of the U.S. Com-
mittee for WHO, Hadas-
sah will have to review its
position."

Mrs. Matzkin cited the'
medical services provide
the Hadassah-Hebrew ni-
versity Medical Center in Je-
rusalem to Arab residents
of Gaza, the West Bank
"and even Jordan," in addi-
tion to providing primary
health care services in hos-
pitals and clinics.
As U.S. administrator for
the Food for Peace program,
she. added, Hadassah dis-
tributes food supplements
to Arab institutions to raise
the nutritional level for
children, pregnant women,
and the sick and aged "and
all of this has paid off in the
amazing improvement of
the health and welfare of
the Arab population in the
administered territories."
She cited the fact that the
WHO assenibTy had con-
demned Israel "despite the
report of the WHO investi-
gator approving of Israel's
health services in these
areas."
