toms are apathy and
indifference. It strikes
whenever insensitivity is
prevalent, especially for
those who don't wish "to get
involved."

Otto Preminger's electri-
fying new nwvie, "Rosebud"
premiered a benefit per-
formance for the orphaned
Walker children whose
father knew the antidote for
the above — being a good sa-
maritan. Frank Walker died
valiantly, in an attempt to
help another human being
who was about to be gunned
down by a criminal in a hos-
pital corridor.

"Rosebud" by any other

name, would indicate gentle
loveliness and serene
beauty. However, this spine-
tingling thriller has nothing
fragile of flimsy in its plot.
It is deeply intense and sus-
penseful, filled with mys-
tery, intrigue and skulldug-
gery.

As five young heiresses
board the luxury yacht
"Rosebud" bound for
Greek and Asiatic ports,
we detect a sinister plan
afoot when some terrorists
bribe the second mate of
the ship to signal when the
boat's owner goes ashore.
The five girls (Debra Ber-
ger, Kim Cattrall, Lalla
Ward, Isabelle Huppert

and Brigitt Ariel) are
taken to a deserted hidea-
way in Corsica. Fear
spreads around the globe,
for the daughters of weal-
thy tycoons are French,
Greek, German, British
and American.

Part of the ransom de-
mands are that Israel be
brought to her knees in a
world-wide boycott,' which
will eventually insure the
defeat and demise of Israel.

Peter O'Toole is an under-
cover agent masquerading
as a reporter. It is through
his ingenuity that the har-
rowing race to save the girls
takes us from Paris to Ham-

burg, West Berlin, Corsica,

The theme of blackmail,
butchery and bloodshed
have been made part of
"Rosebud." The tragedy and
trauma of fighting unseen
adversaries — the brutality
and bestiality of the enemy,
makes one cringe with fear.
and desperation.
Director-producer Otto
Preminger has again proven
himself to be a master of
suspense and excitement.
With daring aplomb he lays
bare and exposes the sensi-
tive nerves of terrorism and
fanaticism involving world-
wide opinion-making. He
handles the matter deftly,
forcefully and impressively.
