Dr. Kasimir F. Fajans, a
pioneer in atomic research,
died Sunday at age 87.
laid the foundation for split-
ting the atom.
A Polish Jew, Dr. Fajans
studied and worked in Ger-
many until 1936 when he ac-
cepted an offer to come to
Ann Arbor.
He is survived by his wife,
Salomea; two sons, Stefan
and Edgar; four grandchil-
dren and two great-grand-
children.
