Speaking Saturday to more than 600 guests at the Michigan Trade Union Council for Histadrut's trib- ute dinner honoring Wil- liam C. Marshall, president of the state AFL-CIO, Leon- ard Woodcock, president of the United Auto Workers, urged continued American support for Israel. Woodcock added that the Palestinian question should be considered "but not when it means the destruction of Israel. Israel must be pro- tected." Guest speaker Jerry Wurf, president of the American Federation of State, County, and Muni- cipal Employes of the AFL-CIO, said that the U.S. "must be willing to help troubled socio-eco- nomic situations wher- ever we're asked to do so.
