Belgian Seeks Help to Bring
Nazi War Criminals to Trial

BRUSSELS (JTA) —
Maurice Pioro, president of
the Belgian Union of Depor-
tees and Families urged
Nazi victims to help bring
war criminals to justice by
pressing charges against

former SS men and other
Nazi officers responsible for
crimes committed during
World War II.
According to Pioro, West
Germany has started civil
actions against four Nazi
war criminals but it is tak-
ing an inordinately long
time to bring them to court
because there is no outside
pressure.
The four criminals in
question are Constantin
Canaris, Kurt Ashe, Ernst
Ehlers and Karl Fielitz. The
Belgian government trans-
ferred over 6,000 documents
to the West German author-
ities earlier this year to fa-
cilitate the prosecution.

NEW YORK — The
American Jewish Commit-
tee has urged the Securities
and Exchange Commission
to require any company that
participates in any boycott
or engages in any discrimi-
natory practices to make
such information public.
This position was ex-
pressed in response to a
SEC request for public com-
ment on a projected SEC
regulation to require disclo-
sure of matters of social sig-
nificance in registration
statements, reports, and
other documents filed with
the SEC. Heretofore, SEC
has not required such state-
ments.

In a statement by its
president, Elmer L. Win-
ter, the AJCommittee
noted that International
Business Machines Corp.
and the Bank of America
had made their positions
clear on this issue in re-
cent public statements,
explicitly declaring their
unwillingness to engage in
any discriminatory prac-
tices.

The IBM position was ex-
pressed by its board chair-
man, Frank T. Cary, at its
recent annual stockholders
meeting in Pittsburgh. In
response to a query from a
stockholder asking if the
corporation had been sub-
jected to any threats or
pressures because of its
business interests in Israel,
Cary replied that "We do
business throughout the
world, in the Middle East
and in Israel. We have not
been blacklisted in any
country. We have not re-
ceived any such pressures.
We are not aware of any
such pressures. Should we
receive any, we would resist
them."
The Bank of America,
through its president, A. W.
Clausen, likewise reaf-
firmed its commitment to a
non-discriminatory policy
in a letter to its officers.
Clausen's letter stated:
"Because of widespread
publicity regarding Arab
boycotts and blacklists, this
is an appropriate time to

renew our commitment to
our traditional non-discimi-
natory policy.
