U.S. Desalination Experts in Israel JERUSALEM (JTA) — A team of American desali- nation experts were in Is- rael Tuesday to examine prospects for erecting a sea- water-sweetening plant at Ashdod. The team was sent under the terms of the new eco- nomic agreement signed by U.S. Treasury Secretary William Simon and Israel Finance Minister Yehoshua Rabinowitz in Washington last week. The U.S. under- took in that accord to con- tribute $20 million to a de- salination plant at Ashdod with the Israeli government putting up an equivalent sum.
