A native of New York
City, she attended City Col-

Brooklyn College at age 20.
Mrs., Sonnenblick worked as
a New York City Welfare
Department supervisor
after law school.
She joined the JHA staff
in 1947 as director of the
home's social services de-
partment.

The Jewish Home for
Aged provides residency at
two locations for the com-
munity's aged who require
full care and medical atten-
tion. Borman Hall houses
200 senior citizens while an
additional 100 elderly reside
at the Meyer Prentis Manor
in Southfield.

Tribute for Sonnenblicks,
Home for Aged Executives

Ira and Eva Sonnenblick,
retiring executives of De-
troit's Jewish Home for
Aged, will be honored at a
testimonial dinner to be
held 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at
Borman Hall, announced
JHA president David M.
Miro.
Invitations to the dinner,
which is sponsored by the
agency's board of directors,
have been sent to commu-
nity leaders and other
friends of the couple.
The Sonnenblicks have
elevated the level of care to
the community's senior
citizens since 1947 when
they assumed administra-
tive leadership of the
home. Known to gerontol-
ogists as the "dean of Jew-
ish homes for aged," Son-
nenblick is nationally
recognized for introducing
to senior residence pro-
grams a work center
which includes occupa-
tional and recreational
workshops.
Sonnenblick immigrated
to the U.S. from Austria at
age 15.
Active in Jewish commu-
nity affairs since 1924, he
was regional supervisor of
education for the Union of
American Hebrew Congre-
gations and as Midwest rep-
resentative for the Joint
Distribution Committee.
Prior to his appointment
as JHA executive vice presi-
dent, Sonnenblick was a
staff member of Detroit's
Allied Jewish Campaign.
A graduate of New York
University, Sonnenblick
also holds a law degree
from Columbia University.
