Chabad-Lubavitch of
Michigan has announced the
appointment of a director to
head the new Ann Arbor
Chabad House. He is Rabbi
Aaron. Y. Goldstein, of
Brooklyn, N.Y.

Harry Laker, a leader in
landsmanshaften circles, in
the Allied Jewish Cam-
paign, Israel Bonds and
other communal causes, has
been re-elected president of
Cong. Beth Achim.
Elected with him were:
Allan Silverman, Allan H.
Kraft, Karl Katkowsky,
Judge Benjamin J. Fried-
man and Leonard Herman,
vice presidents; George
Rossman, Bernard Panush
and Albert K. Lubin, secre-
taries; and Roland Gottes-
man, treasurer.--
Trustees for a three-year
term are: Elliot Burns,
James Klain, Gerald
Lasher, Sol Schwartz, Mrs.
Lottie Partovich, Dr. Wil-
liam Stoler and Mrs. Fredell
Whiteman. Trustees for one
year are: Dr. William Bur-
-lant, Dr. Joseph Dobrusin
and Sheldon Jacobs.
Installation of officers
and trustees will be held at
a luncheon Satui-day in the
synagogue, following the
Shavuot services. Members
of the dedication committee
will be honored with a testi-
monial resolution.

Hebrew College
to Ordain Students
Studying in Israel

NEW YORK — The first
class of Reform rabbinic
students who spent their
freshman year studying in
Israel will be ordained next
month by the Hebrew
Union College-Jewish Insti-
tute of Religion at exercises
June 7-8 in Cincinnati and
New York. -
The Year-in-Israel pro-
gram was launched in 1970
by the HUC-JIR and today
finds rabbinic students,
cantors, educators and com-
munal service students from
the school's American cam-
puses in Cincinnati, New
York and Los Angeles stu-
dying at the institution's
Jerusalem school.
The 1975 graduating class
will have the first female
cantor, Barbara Herman,
being invested by the HUC-
JIR's School of Sacred Mu-
sic at the exercises at Tem-
ple Emanu-El in Manhat-
tan.

The Jewish News will
have an early deadline
for local publicity for
the issue of.May 30. The
deadline will be noon
Friday, May 23, due to
the-Memorial Day holi-
day.

Rabbi Goldstein, 27, will
be assisted by Rabbi Yit-
schak M. Kagan and Rabbi
Yitschok M. Lipszyc who
will continue to teach
classes, organize Shabba-
tons and counsel students at
the Chabad House. A full-
time manager for the mod-
ern Kosher restaurant at
Chabad House, as well as a
cook and kitchen staff, are
also being hired.

Rabbi Goldstein has
served as a camp counselor
in the Lubavitch movement
in both New York and Flor-
ida, and has visited commu-
nity groups in Ohio, Penn-
sylvania and New Jersey
during the summer. Hs also
led a summer Torah-mis-
sion in South America.
