sity, Israel's only religiously oriented university, bestow
honorary council membership upon Mrs. Beate Klars-
feld, the German-born non-Jewish fighter against for-
mer Nazis inside and outside Germany. The council, rep-
resenting some 7,000 students, also cited Mrs. Klarsfeld
for her recent trips to Arab countries, notably Syria,
where she demonstrated on behalf of Israel and the Jew-
ish population there.

some-negative consequences
for Israel, as seen by politi-
cal observers.
On the one hand, Wash-
ington's impotence in the
Vietnam debacle should
convince the American peo-
ple that Israel can ill afford
to give up vital strategic po-
sitions for nothing of sub-
stance in return.
On the other hand, the
Vietnamese collapse has a
negative aspect for Israel,
because President Ford and
Kissinger maintain that Is-
rael said "no" at a time
when America badly needed
a victory on the diplomatic
front.
