Mrs. Ellmann Feted on 88th

Scores of friends *ho
gathered last week in her
home in Fort Lauderdale,
Fla. to honor Jean Ellmann,
widow of Judge James I.
Ellmann of Highland Park,
Mich., on her 88th birthday,
combined the function for
the former Detroit with ap-
preciation for her poetic
skills.
During her Florida resi-
dence of the past five years,
Mrs. Ellmann, who has
written hundreds of verses,
especially for children, most
of them addressed to her
grandchildren, has made
some appearances in poetic
circles. Her 88th birthday
was marked also by re-
peated poetic readings to
the Gallad Group of Bro-
ward Community College.
During the week of her
birthday she gave a prayer
to the Brandeis University
Women of Fort Lauderdale
which was acclaimed as one
of her latest impressive
poetic expressions. The
Prayer:

GOD, let us not postpone
being happy, but out of each
day extract not only the
glory of its joy, but the lan-

The Michigan Trade
Union Council for Histadrut
will sponsor a conference
May 23 at the Walter and
May Reuther UAW Family
Education Center at _Black
Lake, Mich.
The theme of this year's
conference is "Labor at the
Crossroads . .. Coping
With Inflation and the Oil
Crisis." A number of promi-
nent Israeli officials and
trade union leaders are
scheduled to participate in
the proceedings.
Sessions will be devoted
to "American Labor's Stake
in Israel," "A View of the
Future of the U. S. Auto
Industry," "The Political
Ramifications of the Oil Cri-
sis," "Peace or War in the
Middle East?" and "The
Energy Crisis — Implica-
tions for Labor."

Among the speakers
are: Prof. Jack Flagler,
Labor Education Service,
Industrial Relations Cen-
ter, University of Minne-
sota; Irving Bluestone,
vice president, UAW, and
director of its General
Motors Department; Yaa-
cov Keinan, counsel for
Press and Information,
Israel Consulate, Chicago;
and Gregory Bardacke,
