Frank, a longtime contribu- tor to Israel newspapers, Zionist and non-Jewish pub- lications, died here Monday when he was struck down by a taxi he was hailing. He was 77. M.Z., as he was commonly known, was associated with those who founded the Zion- ist movement in Canada, the U.S. and in Israel where he was a frequent visitor. Dr. M. L. Benyas, Optometrist, 61 Dr. Morton L. Benyas, an optometrist for 35 years, died April 11 at age 61. Born in Petoskey, Dr. Benyas lived 47 years in Detroit. He was graduated from the University of Illi- nois School of Optometry. Dr. Benyas was a World War II veteran, serving in the Army medical corps. He was a member of Day- light Lodge of the Masons, Adult Couples' Club and Cong. Beth Moses. He also was a -member of the De- troit Optometric Assoca- tion. He resided at 17109 Robert, Southfield. He is survived by his wife, Natalie; children, David Benyas of North Carolina, Leonard Benyas, Mark S. Plotnick and Ronald J. Pres- ton, Mrs. Robert (Saralynn) Carr, Rebecca Plotnick, Mrs. Charles (Susan) Rich- ards and Mrs. Ed (Robin.) Schneider; three brothers, Saul J., Ralph of Florida and Aaron of Flint; and 13 grandchildren. Manuel Mackie, Firm Owner Manuel Mackie, owner of Arrow Mechanical Contrac- tors in Royal Oak since 1945, died April 12 at age 61. Born in St. Paul, Minn., Mr. Mackie lived 60 years in Detroit. A plumbing con- tractor, Mr. Mackie was a member and past chancellor of Knights of Pythias Lodge 55 and a member of Maurice B. Zeiger Lodge of Bnai Brith. He resided at 14521 Bishop, Oak Park. , He leaves his wife, Faye; a son, Irwin; a daughter, Mrs. Leo (Harriett) Hollander; two brothers, Charles Makie and Albert L. Makie; two sisters, Mrs. Joseph D. (Pauline) Fogelson and Mrs. Ruth Pedrney; and eight grandchildren. Joseph A. Weitz, Diner Founder, 77 Joseph A. Weitz, former owner and founder of Top- pers Diner, with seven loca- tions in Detroit, died April 16 at age 77. Born in Romania, Mr. Weitz lived 60 years in De- troit. He sold his business seven years ago. He was a member of Pisgah Lodge of Bnai Brith. He resided at 25615 Greenfield, South- field. He leaves his wife, Anne; two sons, Marshall W. and Robert H.; three sisters, Mrs. Gussie Rachman, Mrs. Mollie Greenglass and Mrs. Fannie Stark, both of New York; and five grandchil- dren. Services 10 a.m. today at Ira Kaufman Chapel. Joseph Radner, Ex-Meat Firm Boss Joseph Ladner, a retired meat packing executive, died April 16 at age 95. Born in Lithuania, Mr. Radner lived 60 years in Detroit. He retired 50 years ago. He leaves a son, David of Los Angeles; a daughter, Mrs. Louis H. (Phyllis) Han- dler; three grandchildren and three great-grandchil- dren. Rabbi Lessin of Seminary NEW YORK — Rabbi Jacob M._Lessin, a leader in the Musar Movement (Jewish ethics and moral- ity), and associated with the Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theo- logical Seminary for 30 years, died April 13 at age 87. Born in Mins1;'Rabbi Les- sin received his early educa- tion at several famous yesh- ivot in Lithuania and became a protege of Chofetz 'Chaim, at Raclin, and Rabbi Moshe Mordecai Epstein of Kovno, whom he accompa- nied to Israel to establish the Hebron Yeshiva. The yeshiva was subject to Arab hostilities in 1929 resulting in the death of many stu- dents. While in Kovno he was leader of the Kovno Kollel. He arrived in the U.S. in 1941 and after three years in Boston joined the El- chanan Seminary, an affi- liate of Yeshiva University, in 1944. She •■■••■••■ •••-4 ■■••■■•.■• Uzzi Feinerman, Labor Party MK TEL AVIV (JTA) — Uzzi Feinerman a Labor Party member of Knesset, died April 9 on his way to a Knesset Finance Committee hearing. He was 51. Mr. Feinerman, who had served as general secretary of the Moshavim movement, was an ardent disciple of the late David Ben-Gurion, but he remained within the La- bor Party after a Ben-Gur- ion-led Rafi faction split- away. As a lieutenant colonel in the reserves, he served on the Golan Heights during the Yom Kipper War. Mr. Feinerman's place in the Knesset will be filled by Amos Horowitz of Nahalal, a former Rafi member, and brother of Yigal Horowitz, head of the State List and Knesset member.
