mittment to the Histadrut Annuity Trust in honor of Mr.

Mrs. Pinhas Sapir, wife of the chairman of the Jewish

Israeli Lauds Kibutz Schools
"Kibutz . schools are
unique in that the teachers
are drawn from the kibutz
community and they are
chosen on the basis of
whether or not their person-
alities will complement
those of the students.
Therefore, discipline prob-
lems occur less frequently
than in non-kibutz schools."
Moshe Tabenkin, poet,
author and Israeli educator
for more than 25 years,
made this assessment while
Visiting Detroit this week
for an appearance at the
Jewish Community Center's
Israel Indepndence _observ-
ance.
Sponsored by the Jewish
Agency, the World Zionist
Organization and in Detroit
by the Israel Aliyah Center,
Tabenkin is in the U.S. ad-
dressing university, young
adult and other groups on
kibutz education and the
problems of academic
standards in Israel.
Tabenkin said he
stresses the human values
of kibutz education and in
seminars for teachers
points to kibutz education
.as a means of solving edu-
cational problems.
He said that 80 percent of
the kibutz school population
is made up of children of the
kibutz, while the Other 20
percent are tuition-paying
outsiders. Kibutz children
are admitted free since they
provide man-hours working
on the kibutz.
The author of two books
of poetry, "Poems" and
"More Poems," the former
selling more than 40,000
copies, Tabenkin has pub-
lished children's stories,
political analyses and liter-
ary, criticisms. .
