It occurred to me that the
best and surest way to

Arab Boy Treated
by Ex-Detroiter

The 5-year-old son of an
Arabian oil executive is un-
dergoing experimental
treatment in San Diego for
a rare kidney disease, under
the treatment of former
Detroiter Dr. Jerry A.
Schneider.
Dr. Schneider, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Ben Schneider of
Southfield, is treating the
boy for cystinosis, a build-
up of the chemical cystine in
the body.
The boy's brother died
at age 7 from the rare dis-
ease, which Dr. Schneider
has been studying at the
University of California at
San Diego Medial Center.
There are only a few thou-
sand cystinosis patients in
the world, and the average
victim lives to age 7 or 8.
Dr. Schneider emphasized
that the Vitamin C treat-
ment he uses is experimen-
tal, but that the boy's father
made a world-wide search
for a treatment for the rare
disease.
