The Orchestra will be conducted by WJR director of fine arts Karl Haas, as he discusses "How to Listen to Music." Music to be performed includes the overture to Mozart's "The Marriage of Figaro," the March to the Gallows from Berloiz' "Fantastic Symphony," the overture to Bernstein's "Candid-e," and works of Verdi, Wagner and Bee- thoven. ..The program is presented as a benefit performance by the Junior Women's Asso- ciation for the Detroit Sym- phony. Tickets are available at the Ford Auditorium box office. During the summer, Detroit Symphony Orches- tra concerts will be pre- - rented 8:30 p.m. on Thurs- days and Saturdays starting June 26 in the Baldwin Pavilion of Oak- land University. Maestro Russian Helps WSU Win Title Wayne State University's fencing team, led by a 26-year-old Russian Jewish immigrant, won the Na- tional Collegiate Athletic Association fencing- cham- pionship last weekend in Fullerton, Calif. Freshman Yuri Rabinov- ich of Odessa, Russia, took the saber championship with a record of 23-3. The WSU team had an in- ternational flavor as Aus- tralian Greg Benko won the foil championship for the second straight year. Rabi- novich switched to Saber after WSU's defending champion Steve Danosi, of Hungary, was injured sev- eral weeks ago and could not compete. Substitute ,Mark Masters of Southfield competed in epee and also won All- American honors by placing second. Pro Musica Group to Hear Pianist Gary Graffman, the "master of Romanticism," will play for the Pro Musica Society at its final concert of the season, 8:30 p.m. April 25 in the lecture hall of the Detroit Institute of Arts. Graffman will include in his concert "Pictures at an Exhibition" by Mussorgsky. A reception honoring the artist will follow the con- cert.
