Israeli Basketball Team Wins 7 of 8 on U.S. Tour

WHAT IS A rendezvous?
By definition it is a place
to meet . . . to get together
. . . But then you learn an-
other definition . . . like
when you find out that five
old-fashioned Italian
women have been cooking at
Buddy's Rendezvous Piz-
zeria a total of more than 53
years . . . with the rookie
around the cooking range
there for just five years . . .
while the most senior of the
ladies starts her 23rd year
next month . . . Some Ren-
dezvous . . . and some great
pizza out there on E. Six
Mile at Conant.

GRAYSTONE NIGHT
is set for April 17, 8 to 12 at
the Michigan Inn . . . with
public invited ($4 per) to
dance and listen while those
very fine New McKinney's
Cotton Pickers, featuring
Dave Wilborn, take over
Michigan Inn's main ball-
room . . . Dave was one of
the original members of the
old group . . . and still
rated among America's fin-
est male vocalists .- . . The
Michigan Inn stop is sort of
a kickoff to the group's
soon-to-come trip represent-
ing the United States at the
Dutch Jazz Festival in Hol-
land.

SAM HADOUS has
taken over complete opera-
tion of Meyer's Sea Food in
Dearborn . . He'll con-
tinue on with the same de-
lightful menu that has
made. Meyer's a popular
spot for so many years.

NO TRUTH whatsoever
. . . about the very false

rumors that Atrium or Bob-
bie's on Telegraph Road are
"going under" . . . Both are
in healthier shape than ever
before . . with owners
Sam Jarrus, Fred Keywell,
Bob Barnett and Bob Rosen-
feld still at the helm . . .
Sam is a Christian Israeli,
born and raised in Israel,
where his mother - and
brother still live . . . He and
his three partners have
weaved a masterful job of
the very fine dining and en-
tertainment spots they
opened Nov. 1, 1973 . .
Their confidence is evi-
denced by a banquet room
opened about two months
ago, seating from 25 to 100

through a special arrange-
ment with the NCAA.
The United States Naval
Academy game set an at-
tendance record. The Naval
Academy gymnasium holds
6,000 people, but 8,000- fans
were squeezed in to see the
garhe on a Sunday after--
noon.
The U.S. Committee
Sports for Israel saw to it
there was no admission
charge and mailed out 1,500
letters to Jewish fraternal
organizations, synagogues,
temples and 'societies. As a
result, buses came in from
all over the East.
The only game the Israe-
lis lost was against the
highly rated University of
Houston. The game was
played in the Hofheinz Pay-
illion and the Owls quickly
showed their height superi-
ority by dominating the
boards.
Captain Tal Brody and
Mickey Berkowitz weren't
available for this game
since they were in France
playing for the Maccabi
Tel Aviv team in the Euro-
pean quarter finals, but
had these two court stars
been playing, it would
have made little or no dif-
ference. The Owls showed
why they were rated
among the top 20 colleges
during the past season and
probably could have piled

up a much, much larger
score.
They won by 16 points
with their second team
playing the greater part of
the second half. Coach Guy
Lewis of Houston, a former

United States Maccabi team
coach, did not want to humi-
liate the visitors. With 6'11"
and 6'10" players up front,
Lewis' aggregation had no
trouble in handling the re-
bounds.
