1969

Figures speak louder than words and these figures emphasize the obligations upon the builders of Zion to provide
the means for Israel's sustenance and protection through the United Jewish Appeal, major beneficiary of the Allied
Jewish Campaign-Israel Emergency Fund. In an appeal to American Jewry, former Israel Prime Minister Golda
Meir stated:
"The security of the Jewish people, the future of the existence of the Jewish people, depends upon an Israel that is
safe, alive, developing. If you believe that, then you have solved all problems, no matter how tragic they are.
"If you don't, then the blood that was shed for keeping Israel alive was not worthwhile. When three million people
in Israel are no better than six million that are gone, it's not. worthwhile.
"You must know that with the defense of Israel you are defending not only the Jews there; you are securing the
future existence of the entire Jewish people."
