Survived by a Laws of Moses The laws of Moses as well as the laws of Rome contrib- uted suggestion and impulse to the men and institutions which were to prepare the modern world; and if we could have but eyes to see the subtle elements of thought which constitute the gross substance of our present habit, both as re- gards the -sphere of private life, and as regards the ac- tion of the state, we should readily discover how very much besides religion we owe to the Jew. — Woodrow Wilson, The State, 1890. Power of Science "There are many empty and desolate areas in Israel — the Negev is one of them. It will be the-task of our scien- tists and workers as well as the people of Israel to wrest back the soil from its agelong neglect, to breathe new life into it, to reinvigorate the land and restore its ancient fertility. The potentialities for industrial development must be surveyed and harnessed by the state as one of the su- preme tasks; and it will be a function of the Institute to help in formulating the scien- tific method for such develop- ment . . . We have a mighty weapon which we must util- ize with ingenuity and skill, with every means available to us. Science is that weapon, our vessel of strength and our source of defense." —Chaim Weizmann The Family of the Late JACK ALLWEIL Acknowledges with grateful appreciation the many kind expres- sions of sympathy ex- tended by relatives and friends during the fami- ly's recent bereave- ment. daughter, Mrs. Benjamin (Pearl) Marton; two broth- ers, Martin Efraim of Ro- mania and Jacob Efraim of Columbus, Ohio; a sister, Mrs. Mary Feldheim; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. * * * GERTRUDE FINK, 32285 Glen Cove, Farming- ton Hills, died March 22.
