TEL AVIV — The Israel
Sports Federation here has
been advised that Victor Sil-
berman, controversial wres-
tler who "jumped" to Can-
ada, recently, will be
returning to Isreal to com-
plete arrangements for his
training program prior to
the 1976 Olympics.
The Israelis were upset
over his sudden departure
since it appears likely that
Silberman is a good choice
for Israel's first Olympic
medal in international com-
petition at that level.
The Israel National Bas-
ketball Team, now in the
United States, started off
its invasion with an easy vic-
tory in Rochester, New York
over St. John Fisher, 86-73.
Prior to departing for the
U.S. the Israeli squad
played an exhibition game
against the Israel Sabras, a
professional team, in the
European Professional Bas-
ketball League, in the Yad
Eliyahu Stadium. Some
5,000 screaming fans looked
on as the pros handled the
Nationals with comparative
ease.
At the latest standing
the -Sabras were second in
the league, 21/2 games be-
hind Belgium. Switzer-
land is third, Germany is
fourth and the Spanish
five is at the bottom.
Reports from California
indicate that Esther Roth,
the Israeli female sprinter,
is unhappy with her train-
ing program at San Diego
and consequently is moving
up to Los Angeles where she

hopes to find conditions
more to her liking.
Israel's athletes, while
not spoiled, do not train as
extensively as American
athletes do and are very fin-
icky about their training
conditions. In their defense,
it should be said they don't
have the same opportunities
as most athletes around the
world since many of them
are in the army, quite a few
are busy trying to make a
living and there is always a
travel factor. -
There has been a steady
immigration of Israeli ath-
letes to the United States to
prepare for the Olympics.
Israel's top male swimmers
are located in Ohio and Cali-
fornia, while five junior
swimmers are being
coached in Columbus, Ohio.
The Israel Sports Federa-
tion has asked the United
States Committee Sports
for Israel to try and place
their two best junior tennis
players in the U.S. for a
year.

West Germany Is
Unmoved by Arabs

BONN (ZINS) — The fear
that a new generation of
Germans would weaken its
ties with Israel has proven
baseless.
The new leadership is ex-
pected to continue its eco-
nomic assistance to Israel
and has shown that it is not
swayed by Arab blackmail
or threats of boycott. Ger-
many is economically self-
sufficient and not depend-
ent on Arab capital, Ger-
many maintains the closest
ties with the U.S. and is in-
fluenced by American pol-
icy and public opinion in

wards Israel.

Senator Blasts

Truth and Repose

"God offers to every mind
its choice between truth and
repose. He in whom the love
of repose predominates will
accept the first creed, the
first philosophy, the first
political party he neets, —
most likely his father's. He
in whom the love of truth
predominates will keep him-
self aloof from all moorings
and afloat. He submits to
the inconvenience of sus-
pense and imperfect opin-
ion, but he is a candidate for
truth, as the other is not,
and respects the highest law
of his being."
—Ralph Waldo Emerson.
