THE DETROIT JEWISH NEWS

When we set ourselves to
the work of collecting or re-,
collecting the scattered
pieces of ourselves, we begin
a task which, if carried to its
natural conclusions, ulti-
mately becomes prayer.

Highway, of God

Music for all ages

Religion has always in-
sisted that the highway of
God is open to every man.
He is free to walk the twin
paths of worship and of ac-
'tion. Action expresses itself
through ritual and through
the ethical life; worship,
pre-eminently through
prayer.

Political observers view
this as shortsightedness and
lack of understanding on
the part of American for-
eign policy makers. If the
insurrection in Eritrea suc-
ceeds, the Red Sea will fall
entirely under Arab control.
This would not only ad-
versely affect the vital inter-
ests of the State of Israel,
they say, but also those of
the United States. The delay
may cause Eritrea to fall to
the insurgents with Amer-
ica losing its position in the
northern zone of East Af-
rica.

Telebank to Aid
Foreign Jews

Dr. Theodore Mandell,
chairman of the Jewish
Community Council's com-
mittee on international con-
cerns, announced the estab-
lishment of the CIC Crisis
Telebank.
Modeled after telegram
banks developed In more
than a dozen other Ameri-
can -cities, and used by the
Detroit committee for So-
viet Jewry, the new telebank
is designed to facilitate
rapid communication in
times of crisis in Israel, the
USSR, Arab lands, or any-
where else in the world
where Jews may be threat-
ened.

Dr. Mandell noted the
telegram banks in other ci-

ties were activated to urge
Congressmen to continue
their support of the Jack-

son-Vanik Amendment, to

urge Soviet officials to
lessen the penalties levied
against Viktor Polsky,
Mikhail Leviev, Dr. Mik-
hail Stern, and other So-
viet Jews, and to protest
the invitation to Yasir
Arafat to speak before the
United Nations.
Interested individuals
may fill out cards authoriz-
ing appropriate Council offi-
cers and committee chair-
