Men's Clubs Leadership Plan
by Detroiter Seen Successful

When he was elected
president of the National
Federation of Jewish Men's
Clubs, I. Murray Jacobs of
Birmingham proposed to
establish an Academy of
Leadership to travel
throughout the country
preparing men's club lay-
men - for leadership roles in.
the Jewish community and
Conservative movement.
Since that time in 1973,
the academy has made great
strides. It visited nine re-
gions, and by June 1975 all
15 regions will have been
serviced at least once: Let-
ters from regional and club
presidents to Jacobs have
praised the "Academy on
Wheels."
The course of study for

the program includes phi-
losophy of the men's club
movement, leadership, ad-
ministration, group dynam-
ics, and membership reten-
tion.

The academy provides
club presidents, their offi- ,
cers and rank and file
membership with the basic
instruction needed for the
successful operation of
men's clubs and the devel-
opment of a trained reser-
voir of leaders.
Audio and visual aids
have been developed for the
academy, and laymen and
rabbis from various congre- -
gations throughout the 15
regions have volunteered to
serve in advisory capacities.=
