Liberty State Bank and
Trust has been growing
quietly for 57 years, with a
dramatic growth in the last
four years.
When Liberty State Bank
and Trust first opened its
doors in September 1918, it
had $100,000 in • capital.
Started by two brothers,
Joseph and Stanislaw
Chronowski, the bank's mis-
sion was to help the finan-
cial growth of the Ham-
tramck community.
Two months later, the
bank's first report of condi-
tions listed $132,024.65 in
assets and liabilities. In
1941, Liberty State Bank
and Trust was the first
Hamtramck bank to become
a member of the Federal Re-
serve Board. In December
1960, the bank shoed a
nearly 50 percent gain in as-
sets over. those recorded two
years earlier.
With main offices on
Joseph Campau in Ham-
tramck, the bank now has
branch offices in Clinton
Township, Sterling
Heights, Waterford Town-
ship and West Bloomfield
Township.
Assets now total more
than $100 million. Services
include drive-in banking,
checking and savings ac-
counts, bank-by-mail, col-
lections, safekeeping, cash-
iers - checks and - bank- drafts,
travelers checks and money
orders, wire transfer, Mas-
ter Charge, and free check-
ing on the "Thrifty $150"
and "Earn A Check" pio-
grams.
The bank also conducts
extensive loan activities for
business, home improve-
ment, mortgage, automo-
bile, aircraft, and other pur-
poses. But the bank's
growth rate in just the last
four years is attributed to a
new-chairman of the board
of directors, Morris Fenkell.
