TEL AVIV (ZINS) — Al-
though the U.S. dollar is los-
ing ground in European
money markets, it remains
a highly prized currency in
relation to the Israeli
pound. The rate of the ddllar
on the black market is now
IL 6.58=U.S. $1 — as com-
pared with the official rate
of U.S. $1=IL 6.

"It's a totally new restaurant and
already a favorite."

Asher Berlin, who has
inaugurated the "Operation
Truth" campaign here to
assure dissemination of
proper facts and truthful in-
formation about Israel, -re-
ports increased interest in •
the movement.
Berlin reports that he has
received encouragement
from non-Jews as well as
Jews. Martin Hayden, edi-
tor of the Detroit News, for
example, assured him ". .
that you know we have al-
ways favored justice for Is-
rael and will continue to do
so."
Berlin States that he has
received fiiiancial support
from some quarters to as-
sare the success of his com-
mittee's efforts and that
mail at his home, 13961
Kenwood, Oak Park, keeps
growing with expressions of
interest and checks for the
movement.
The "Operation Truth"
movement was inaugurated
in Israel by Meyer W. Weis-
gal, chancellor of the Weiz-
man-n Institute, who planS
to give it new impetus in the
coming months with the aid
of supporters in many
lands:

the activities directed by
Berlin have won commenda-
tions from Weisgal and a
number of other Israelis.

Levi Seeks Speedy Processing
of Russian Emigres in Rome

WASHINGTON (JTA)
Attorney General Edward
H. Levi has expressed con-
fidence that the State De-
partment and the Justice
Department's Immigration
and Naturalization Service
will "expedite the process-
ing and movement" of Soviet
refugees in Rome who have
elected td-immigrate,t4the
United States.
In a letter to Rep. Joshua
Eilberg (D.Pa.), who has
sought official explanations
on why some refugees in
Rome have been waiting up
to six months for U.S. visas,
Levi said that an alternate
procedure "will take care of
the present situation in
Rome and will make unnec-
essary the use of the parole
authority" of the attorney
general.
The parole authority was
pledged three years ago by
former Attorney General
John Mitchell to expedite
the flow of emigrants from
the Soviet Union. It came at
a time when the Congress
was considering legislation
to admit up to 32,000 refu :
gees in one year. However,
the processing bogged down.
It is now understood
•that INS' in Rome will
provide the required per-
sonnel to expedite the
processing and the State
Department/ will transfer
consular officials from
Naples to Rome as needed
to- assist with the required
paper work.
In making public Levi's
fetter, Eilberg said he was
"very pleased" with the
coordination Levi has de-
scribed but he added that he
will "continue to monitor
the situation" of the approx-
imately 2,000 refugees in
Rome.
Levi's letter said that the
INS has explored with the

Passover
in Siberia

NEW YORK — Alexan ,
der. Roisrtian, 48, his wife
and two children will be cel-
ebrating a traditional Pas-
sover in Siberia again this
year. Rpisman manages to
conduct a seder . without a
haggada or even basic
knowledge of the Hebrew
language.

The Roisman's struggles
have been related in recent
letters sent to .Dr. Ira Ham-
merman, formerly of New
York, and now a lecturer in
biolphysics at Bar-Ilan Uni-
versity in Israel.
"We had to 16.rn every-
thing anew," writes Rois-
man,-"I had to read the Bi-
ble (in Hebrew) with the
help of a Hebrew dictionary.
Though I didn't ever see a
Passover seder, I had res-
tored one for our family. We
celebrate it every year from
1968.
-The Roisman's applied to
leave Russia more than
three years ago, but the So-
viet authorities claim that
Roisman once had access to
"secret research" and there-
fore cannot leave.

"possibility of using an al-
ternate plan" to the parole
system which would employ
"conditional entry numbers
for the principal applicant
of a refugee family and hav-
ing ndh-preference numbers
used for the accompanying
spouse and- children."
"The rationale in this
procedure," Levi wrote, "is
that a principal applicant
does not require a labor cer-
tification to qualify for a
conditional entry number.
Similarly, the accompany-
ing spouse and children
would not require labor cer-
tification to qualify for non-
preference numbers."
