WDET-FM (101.9) will
broadcast a series of live
concerts by the Israel Phil-
harmonic Orchestra from
Tel Aviv at 8:30 p.m. on
Thursday evenings.
The program series is
being sponsored locally the

Julius Schwartz and Wil-
liam Schwartz; Frank's

Emma Schaver Cited for Role
as Zionist on 70th Birthday

Emma Lazaroff Schaver's
70th birthday, occurring
Saturday, is the occasion for
many elements in Jewry
and in the world of music to
recall her multiple activi-
ties.
Born in Russia, Mrs.
Schaver was the daughter of
a leader in the Chabad
movement whose interests
she pursued.
A concert singer, Mrs.

From 1932-58 she toured
the U.S., Canada, Mexico,
Brazil, Chile, Uruguay,
Argentina, Europe and
Israel. She was a member
of the first culture mission
sponsored by the World
Jewish Congress to visit
displaced persons camps
in Germany.

and the Julliard School of
Music. She made her debut

Among her awards are
the Eleanor Roosevelt Hu-
manities Award and honor-
ary degree from the Jewish
Teachers Seminary. She is
the chairman of the Morris
and Emma Schaver-Publica-
tions Fund for Jewish Stud-
ies at Wayne State Univer-
sity and is president of the
Morris and Emma Schaver
Foundation.

She recorded two albums,
and was invited to perform
by the Israeli government
and Israeli army for con-
certs in the 1948 war and by
the Polish Jewish Cultural
Committee for a concert
tour. She gave her last offi-
cial performance on Mt.
Scopus, Israel, in June 1967.
She also was chairman of
'Ulf sixth, seventh and
eighth Zimriya conclaves in
Israel.
Prior to making her home
in Jerusalem, Mrs. Schaver
was chairman of the Wom-
en's Division of the Israel
Bond Organization in De-
troit. She was on the board
of directors of the America-
Israel Cultural Foundation,
AMPAL, Israel Develop-
ment Corp of America and
American Friends of the
Hebrew University. She was
a member of the national
hoards of Pioneer Women,
Labor Zionist Alliance, Na-
tional Labor Committee for
Israel-Histadrut and Ben-
Gurion University of the
Negev.
