A study of the leading
causes of death in Israel,
pdblished by the govern=
merit's Central Statistical
Bureau, said of the 20,321,
deaths in the year 1973 (ex-
clusive of the fatalities suf-
fered in the Yom Kippur
War), the leading cause of
death was heart failure. It
accounted for 6,523 mortali-
ties. -
Also cited were suicide
and traffic accidents.

eral weeks ago to challenge
U.S. Secretary of State
Henry Kissinger's peace
moves by trying to establish
settlements in the adminis-
tered territories while the
Secretary is in the region.
They claim that the Nest
Bank belongs to Israel by di-
vine right.

The millitants,- calling
themselves the "Shilo"
group, camped- at the Bibl-
ical site of Shilo or Baai
Hatzor near Ramallah.
They set up a dining room,
makeshift synagogue and
yeshiva and an electric
generator and planned to
open a blacksmiths shop..
The Gush Ernunin got
moral and political support
in 'the Knesset from mem-
bers of the National Reli-
gious Party, which is part of
the government coalition,
and from the opposition
Likud.

Senator Restates
Support of Israel

WASHINGTON (ZINS)
— Sen. John Sparkman . (D-
Ala.), chairman of the Sen-
ate Foreign Relations Com-
mittee, speaking to repre-
sentatives of the ZOA in his
Washington office, strongly
stated, "I have not changed
my position in support of
Israel.
Contrary to reports in the
. media, Sparkman rejected
the premise that Israel talk
with the PLO or its leader,
t Yasir thafat. Nor did he
recommend a special Pales-
tine settlement, -although he
expressed concern for the
displaced Palestinians and
urged Israel and King Hus-
sein to negotiate this ques,-
tion.

Workshop Focuses
