Katzir Meets President Ford; Talks to UJA, Bonds Events

WASHINGTON (JTA) —
Israeli President Ephraim
Katzir met with president
Ford Monday at the White
House in an "informal visit"
as part of his first visit to
the U.S. as Israel's head of
state.
The two presidents chat-
tered amiably in the pres-
ence of newsmen about the
University of Michigan
where Katzir will receive an
honorary doctorate Wednes-
day.
Katzir was accompanied
to the President's Oval Of-
fice by Israeli Ambassador
imha Dinitz, who hosted a
reception for Katzir Monday
night at the Israeli Em-
bassy.
Katzir urged leaders of
the Washington Jewish
community earlier to con-
tinue efforts to interpret
Israel's ideals of democ-
racy, morality, justice and
peace to the general Amer-
ican community.
Katzir also stressed the
importance of Jewish educa-
tion in improving the qual-
ity of Jewish life. A score of
local leaders met with Kat-
zir at Blair House where he
is the guest of President
Ford.
Katzir addressed the lead-
ership of the United Jewish
Appeal and Jewish Federa-

tions and Welfare Funds
across the country at a spe-
cial luncheon meeting in
New York Wednesday.
Upon arriving in the U.S.
last weekend, Katzir ad-
dressed the dinner in Miami
Beach inaugurating the
1975 Israel Bond campaign
and hailed President Ford
for the "remarkable stand"
he has taken on the Arab
boycott of Jewish-owned
banks.
He also said that Israel
was deeply grateful to the
President, to Secretary of
State Henry A. Kissinger
and to the American peo-
ple for giving Israel con-
tinued scientific, technol-
ogical, economic and
defense aid.
Katzir denounced the
spread of the Arab boycott
and what he called the new
Arab anti-Semitism. He
warned that "Anti-Sem
itism, which starts with at-
tacking Jews, eventually
turns to the wider aim of de-
stroying human freedom
and modern democracy."
Katzir congratulated the
Israel Bond Organization on
the 25th anniversary of its
founding by the late Pre-
mier David Ben-Gurion. He
noted that the anniversary
also marks the attainment
of the $3 billion mark in Is-

French Cemetery, Walls Vandalized

PARIS (JTA) — Forty
tombstones were overturned
in the Jewish cemetery of
Fontainebleau, south of
Paris. The attack on the ce-
metery is the first act of an-
ti-Semitism in the Fontai-
nebleau area.
Anti-Semitic posters ap-
peared on the walls of Paris

and the suburbs last week,
showing a flag-bearing Is-
raeli being bodily thrown
out of France. They were
printed and hung by a group
known as "The French
Work," led by Pierre Sidos.
Stars of David were also
painted on walls in other
parts of the city..
