Platt held this post for the last four years. In a report submitted to the recent national confer- ence of the American ORT Federation, Platt recalled that "four years ago there were about 10,000 members in Men's ORT chapters. There are now 18,000. I took over a structure of 40 chap- ters. There are now 75 in almost as many communi- ties. Men's ORT has come a long way in a brief span of time". Dean Haber, who had been president of American ORT Federation for 25 years, relinquished the posi- tion earlier this year to Har- old Friedman of New York. Dr. Haber remains chair- man of the central board of the World ORT Union and has announced his intention to continue his level of activ- ities and identification with ORT to the fullest. He has just returned from a budget -session of the World ORT Union held in Geneva, Switzerland, at which funding policies and requirements were estab- lished for 1975 services for over 70,000 youth and adults. By far the largest ORT program is in Israel. Its net- work of 84 schools is cred- ited with being the nation's basic resource. The Detroit Men's ORT meeting Sunday will elect its officers and directors for the coming year. Dean William Haber, of the University of Michigan and president of American ORT for 25 years, will be the 'principal speaker at the an- nual meeting and brunch of 'Detroit Men's ORT 10 a.m. Sunday at the main Jewish Community Center. Rabin May Abolish Two Ministries JERUSALEM, (JTA) — Premier Yitzhak Rabin and his coalition partners of the Independent Liberal Party are locked in a dispute over the premier's intention to abolish the ministry of tour- ism headed by ILP leader Moshe Kol. Government sources con- firmed that this step was under serious consideration, along with the abolition of the information ministry whose minister, -Aharon Yariv, resigned from the government last month. According to the sources, Rabin intends to offer Kol the communications minis- try which has been vacant since the present govern- ment took office. But the ILP has objected stren- uously. Another ILP spokesman said the minis- try of tourism must remain a separate Cabinet post and not be combined with other ministries. Rabin is said to have dropped the idea of adding another Labor Party minis- ter to his Cabinet after the man of his choice, Haifa Mayor Yosef Almogi, de- clined his invitation. That leaves the vacancy that Kol would fill in a Cabinet re- shuffle, sources said. 10 1 H MESH BAG U.S. No. 1 DRY ONIONS 3 I. He said that the new cen- tral body would include Jewish organizations and individuals alike in order to have a unified approach in dealing with the Arab prop- aganda. Rabbi Miller said that the presidents conference is requesting the State Department and the city of New York to deny official diplomatic recognition to any representative or of- fice of the Palestine Liber- ation Organization, which is supposed to arrive here for the next UN General Assembly. Rabbi Miller disclosed that he met with John Scali, the United States Ambassa- dor to the UN, and dis- cussed with him the ques- tion of the PLO treatment on the part of the U.S. According to Rabbi Miller, the questions raised were the granting of a diplo- matic status and diplomatic immunity to the PLO, the intention of the PLO to create a semi-governmental agency in the United States, and the request by the PLO to be listed in the UN Direc- tory. Rabbi Miller added that Scali was "very sympathetic in terms of his recommen- dation that the United Miss Gruen sets August Wedding States government will take a strict stand" on the PLO issue. He also disclosed that the presidents conference requested a meeting with Mayor Abraham Beame of New York to discuss the PLO and to tell the mayor that "the American Jewish community is unanimous in its feeling that the PLO not be accorded any official dip- lomatic status when its leaders come to New York as UN observers."
