If you know anyone who is planning to visit Uganda, tell him not to order an ome- lette there. But maybe he could try a boiled egg. According to the New York Times, a guest at a res- taurant in Uganda com- plained about the delay in serving the omelette he or- dered. "Oh, we have the ome- lette," he was told, "but we don't have a plate to put it in until somebody else finishes eating." There also is a shortage of glasses for cof- fee. Rabinowitz ought to get a by-line. Rabinowitz is the finance minister of Israel. The taxes in Israel are very high. Deliciously Prepared for the Discerning Taste 7523 W. McNichols Rd. Levy was an esteemed member of the bench in Philadelphia. He also was one of the board of trustees of the University of Penn- sylvania. Jefferson, it is said, had planned to name him attorney general but was dissuaded by Albert Gallatin, his secretary of thetreasury. Gallatin also came from Pennsylvania. The reasons for Gallatin's opposition are not known. There was another Levy who is associated with the Jefferson saga—Commo- dore Uriah P. Levy. He served in the War of 1812. He was a fighting man and fought several duels. Appar- ently he encountered some anti-Semitism. He was a great admirer of Jefferson. He bought Jefferson's es- tate, Monticello, after Jef- ferson's death, which proba- bly saved Monticello from being divided up and sold in lots. He also presented to the government the statue of Jefferson which now stands in the Capitol in Washington. Moshe Dayan is busy writing his memoirs for which he has been guaran- teed $500,000 by his English publishers. But most of the money, Dayan told news reporters, will not go to him but to Yehoshua Rabinow- itz. So, Uganda is not only now without Jews and Eu- ropeans, but without its fi- nance minister and without cups and saucers, and the food isn't too good either, says the Times correspond- ent.
