Chronicle of American Apa-
thy."
Morse had a tragic end.
He died in an automobile ac-
cident in Yugoslavia four
years ago. But he left a leg-
acy for truth. He revealed
the failures of Franklin D
Roosevelt and many men in
his administration to come
to the aid of Jews who were
about to be exterminated.
He told the tragic story of
indifference by the world
powers to come to the aid of
the doomed to death, many
of whom could have been
rescued.
Hart Publishing Co., after
producing a hard cover and
paperback editions of
Morse's important book, has
just reissued the original.
Accompanying it is a state-
ment by the publisher Har-
old H. Hart, which presents
a summarized view of the
value of this historic work.
Hart states: "The ques-
tion may be asked, 'Why?'
Why, so many years after
publication, would anyone
reprint a book which tells so
painful a story and which
casts obloquy on some of the
cherished names in Ameri-
can history?

"But the force of current
events almost makes it obli-
gatory to sound the alarm,
to remind this generation
that not so long ago the
leaders of this country were
asked to call halt to the an-
nihilation of a people, and
that none answered. All
turned a deaf ear, including
such esteemed figures as
Cordell Hull, Sumner
Welles, and Franklin D
Roosevelt:
"No people can withstand
two holocausts within suc-
cessive generations. The
pronouncements of Arafat
at the United Nations As-
sembly and elsewhere leave
no scintilla of doubt that he
and his cohorts wish to liq-
uidate the state of Israel. As
he knows very well, this can
be done only through the
genocide of Israel's inhabit-
ants.

"This formulation was lis-
tened to and roundly ap-
plauded by, most of the na-
tions sitting in assemblage
in the halls of the United
Nations. Tiny Israel, belea-
gured on all sides, is sup-

JERUSALEM — Exqui-
site shells from the large
molluscan collection of the
late Arthur Blok went on
display at the opening of the
Hebrew University's Zoolog-
ical Museum.
The collection of the
13,000 species of molluscan
shells was willed to the uni-
versity by Dr. Blok, who
died last fall in England at
age 92. The retired civil serv-
ant and engineer, an avid
Zionist, had amassed in his
spare time one of the largest
private collections of such
shells in the world. Just
prior to his death, he had
personally packed every
item for shipment to Jeru-
salem.

from the past; that a people
without a country were a
ghost people and aliens ever-
ywhere, that if the state
should be vanquished all
Jews become once again
vulnerable."
Thus the Morse book
again challenges Americans
of all faiths to be on guard
lest there be a repetition of
the horrors of the 1930s and
1940s. "When Six Million
Died" must be read and re-
read and kept _ circulating.

Its value is not only for this
era but also for the genera-
tion to come.

other major countries of the
world have yielded to Arab
threats and blackmail; and
they would, it appears, com-

"If Israel can be de-
stroyed, no Jew on earth is
secure. The forces of de-
struction are afoot, and only
by exposure of "who is• for
Mammon and who is for
God" might'an unspeakable
catastrophe be averted.
"That is why we have re-
printed 'While Six Million
Died.' And that is why we
believe it is imperative that
everyone learn of the shock-
ingstory this book tells."
To clarify and qualify the
reference to the present sit-
uation affecting Israel, as a
warning against repetition
of the Holocaustian era,
Hart Publishers accompa-
nied their statement with a
copy of the article in New-
sweek by Barbara Tuch-
man, the eminent historian,
in which she stated:
"Today American Jews
have learned that the res-
tored sovereignty of Israel
