The Detroit News also car-
ried an item about the signa-
ture seekers — in a small item
on page 4, Monday, which indi-
cated specifically that the story
was carried in Lebanese news-
papers. Apparently the Free
Press fell victim to the ruse by
using the photos that came
from Lebanon.
On Tuesday the Free Press
carried another big story, on
Page 3, with a photo of the cou-
ple from Philadelphia and a
12-year-old son whose photo as
an infant was used to trap Ara-

fat into the ruse.
Joseph Alsop, the noted col-
umnist, interviewed on the NBC
Today program Wednesday
morning, described Yasir Ara-
fat as "a fraud" andsaid he did
not think he had more than 10
terrorists always backing him.
Alsop said Arafat is blackmail-
ing Arab leaders to provide him
with funds to carry on his ter-
rorist activities.

The days of the week do not
have any names in the Hebrew
language.

After the State of Israel was
reestablished in 1948, there was
some consideration to establish
formal names for the days of
the week in Hebrew. This at-
tempt was discarded and,
therefore, the- days of the week
in Hebrew are still referred to
by numbers instead of proper
names.

This means, for example,
Sunday is referred to as the
first day of the week, Monday,
the second, etc. Some of the
Jewish commentaries in the
Bible consider this practice as a
partial fulfillment of the Com-
mandment in the Bible (Exodus
20:8) which says "remember the
Sabbath . . ."

By numbering the days in the
week and by referring to each

of them by the appropriate
number, we remember -the Sab-
bath which is the focal point of
the numbers. Thus, every day of
the week is referred to by its
distance from the Sabbath.
