Solitude By ZALMAN SHAZAR Translated from the Hebrew by Joshua Joyrich For man to be alone is good occasionally. Not a book, a friend, nor public, nor another individual; Except himself besides his conscience solely. It is good for man to be alone occasionally. It is valuable sometime to exit from his own possessions, Whether house, or business—not desired, nor culpable. Man should only hearken to his heart and be inaudible. It is good for him to part from his possessions. To hearken to his heart, his life perceive; To know what he incurs and what he possesses.
